This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Now, would you let Harley go 3 weeks without getting him checked out? :')
My two cents... Since there's more ligament than muscle in that area, it may be a ligament, and if it's a ligament injury they just take a long time to heal.
Hey WOO HOO!
Stellar... Is this on Dot?
Congratulations to Kristy:')
No but that is different:)

A few years ago, I went to a Civil War reenactment. One of the calvary officers was mounted on a horse who looked like he had some age on him. When I asked how old he was, the man said the horse was 30 years old and still going strong. The horse looked old but was in great shape.
Well, I'll go with that then. Do they splint that?
Becky
No this is Kristy on Rowdy.
Jenny rides Dot, when she rides.
Becky
Terrific. Heh... my landlord has a morgan that is really really old... It was in it's twenties ten years ago... still his wife's favorite horse :~D
Ah - dang, yeah, I had them confused. Well congratulations to Kirsty and Rowdy!
Becky
That's if it's not really broken. I don't know, but I'd think if it was really broken you'd have lack of movement and/or swelling, wouldn't you? It's the lack of swelling that makes me think ligament or tendon.
I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn last night but if it's ligament or tendon, I think you would want to splint it as much as you can, I think it would feel better. But in my experience with my feet, it just took a long time to heal, whether I was mobile or not.
I did call animal control, they couldn't have cared less but they did give me the number to the game warden. I had to leave a message with him and he hasn't called me back, yet.
Animal control told me I couldn't do anything about it, since it was wildlife. It was all I could do to keep from saying, "oh yeah? watch me." Or perhaps, "whaddaya gonna do if I kill it, slap a fine on me? I'm sooo scared."
Excellent picture! Her ponytail just matches Rowdy's tail.
Dam:). I hate wearing that thing especially since it doesn't even help:)
I just figured it was a bruise or a crack. I didn't hyper extend it, just dropped my motorcycle on it.
Becky
I'd be surprised if they're controlled, they aren't here, but it wouldn't surprise me if Animal Control doesn't know the answer for wildlife.
People talk like WA is more liberal than TX, and I was told I could legally shoot mine, even though I'm right next to a store and fairly suburban, I'm outside the city limits so it's OK. They gave me the number of hunters for hire if I didn't want to do it myself. No live trapping and relocating was allowed, it was 'kill it and don't give it to someone else!' ;~D
What cougar?:')
LOL, it sure does:). I noticed Rowdy's tail in this picture, I thought it looked cool, but I never noticed Kristy's:)
LOL, Mack's got that Bill Cosby show on when he tells about natural childbirth, I'm about to crack up:)
Becky
It might be... you might have the wrong kind of splint too, if you go to a larger drug store, maybe they have one that would support in the right way.
Is it a sharp pain or a dull ache? All the time, or when you move it? Any tingling?
Did you see that we have something brewing out by the Yucatan?
I'm told we are protected under a high right now though.
