The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

OK - couldn't figure out how those two ideas were related...

I'm getting ready to hit the couch here... did a few miles of mowing today and I'm beat.

I don't remember any of that stuff in Fort Worth. I can't believe they shut the rides down.

They do get very brave, with all the encroaching development. It's sooooo dry here that the forest critters come up to my barn for a drink of my dog's water and sample any leftover food. Raccoons, possums, skunks, armadillers, I've seen them all in my barn. No cougars, bobcats or coyotes in there, though.

It's the same problem here with development. In the town where I grew up there's virtually no untouched land left. It's scary. Two developments have gone up on my street where there were once all woods. I had to rescue a possum out of the garbage once. (No one else was brave enough to, but believe me, I ran like hell once I got the silly thing unstuck.) We also ended up with a baby raccoon in our house at one point. He had gotten into the pantry.

I think I'm gonna hit the shower, I'm sick of the smell of Pyrannha and sweaty horse.

Is the point to make it easier to get on?

Hmmm.... dunno. Might work, but I'd think if the stirrup was that low, you might step into it easier, but that doesn't get your leg over the other side easier.

It's better to find something to stand on than hang on one side pulling the saddle over.

Or is it a breakaway? I guess you'll have to explain. :~)

I never ordered that. I figured I just needed to find ways to get on (back of truck) You have to be able to mount fast and I don't. This is a breakaway I came across while looking for bridles. I have seen the English but not Western.

If it's a breakaway, it seems a bit gimmicky to me...

There's a western type breakaway stirrup that I've seen advertised countless time on RFDTV.
