Y'all were talking about packing for shipment earlier I believe. I bought some trees through the mail awhile back.
They were shipped with plastic bags banded around a small root ball and just layed in the box with packing popcorn. All 25 survived the trip.
LOL,,,looks like fun:)
I was wondering if you thought some of that root stimulator you buy when planting new things would help?
Becky
I think it would. We use vitamin B when we plant bareroot things. It seems to work.
OK, well then, I'll pick some up tomorrow when I'm at the store.
Vit. B. how do you do that? is it a pill or liquid?
Becky
I think it'd be a good idea when you get them to soak them in a bucket of water for awhile... They're good and wet now, and packed in shavings that are damp, but it probably wouldn't hurt.
They'll come wrapped in paper with shavings... so open them outside where you don't mind shavings everywhere :~D
I'd give them a lot of loose dirt around them if the ground's hard, and I think any of the shavings, leaves, peat moss and composty stuff you've got around, throw some of that in the hole. Their favorite environment here is under trees with a thick layer of old fallen debris they live in...lots of wet leaves maybe like you've got out in your back forty.
You want to come down here and learn to fly with me? I'm doing it so that if a time comes that Dad can't, he can with me. One of the DILs told him he couldn't anymore a few weeks ago. Big mistake.
I love getting things wrapped in news paper from other places. Interesting reading:")
Well that was what I wondering. Some things you can kill them with kindness. Morning glories for one, will grow and bloom better if the soil is not all that rich, and you don't water them much. I was wondering how these things will adapt in a "garden" that is fertilized. Obviously they don't mind alot of water:), coming from Wash.
Becky
Yours is gonna come as one big one, I didn't split it, but there's a pretty obvious place to split it if you want to. :~D
I've Miracle-Growed 'em. I don't think they care :~D
25 trees - that must have been a HUGH box ;~D
It's a liquid, it comes in about 1qt size I think, and I find it in the garden department at most stores. We just mix it with water and soak the roots.
Hey - I still haven't heard from Frog, and I've got them all ready to go. I think I've got her address at work from the footer of one of her emails... Should I just ship it there you think?
I think I'll plant it and then seperate it next year so that it has less shocks to deal with. I'm going to plant it at the corner of the house by the porch. The overflow hose for the swamp cooler drains there so it's damper than the rest of the beds. It will also get morning sun but not late afternoon when it's hotter.
The nice thing about work addresses is that there is someone there all the time to receive packages.
Sounds like a great spot. :~D
True :~D
I can't imagine a situation where you'd get in trouble at work for receiving a package...
I get personal stuff at work. I use that address when I don't want to use my personal. No problem. I just can't get on FR:')
Well, that's what I'm gonna do.
I've got them all packaged up and I want to get 'em shipped today...
I'm off to town :~D
Is it here yet?:)
I just got back from town. Quiet day here today. Macks under the weather, so we're just chillin today.
