The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I had to log in but I did, and can follow it now... I joined the group once a long time ago... to ask about Isoxuprine being allowed or not... remember?

Oh, OK. No I don't remember you asking that there. Maybe it was before I figured out how to join myself. Took me awhile:) What did they tell you about the Isoxuprine?

That it wasn't allowed. :~)

You were a member... it was at your suggestion that I asked there> Even though it's not my region, they had the most active group.

RE calling in the prescription... Vet's voicemail said he was in surgery all day today and unavailable. could just be he's too busy to get to it.

OK, I'll ask them to hold the order until we can get hold of the vet.

Heh... the pony was still trying to reach over the temp fence, like it wasn't hitting her very hard, so I went out with some more tape and wrapped all the connections so I KNOW it's getting a good contact. NOW it's hitting her. NOW she's REALLY mad :~D

I also fed some hay... they weren't easily finding enough out there, hence the pony's behavior. The idle mind is the devil's playground!

The other day, I noticed in the corner that there was a new wood support up. It looks like a gate. A mare was backed up to it and scratching her butt real good. Right in the same place that Sarah Lee broke down.

Raining here too. Today is the first day of hurricane season. I mentioned my evacuation plans to my husband last night. He told me sarcastically" well, why don't you just put them in the garage? I replied, "huh.We would have to put up some railing and..."He interrupted me with " NO. Don't even think about it it. Are you listening to me? I mean it! NO HORSES IN THE GARAGE" He walked off talking to himself about "she's not putting her #$%# horses in my garage" I think the pigs may be starting to flap their wings a little:')

I had Sarah Lee tied up to a 4x4 the other Day. She started chewing on it. I told her to quit and pushed her away and she didn't try it again while I was watching but how do you stop cribbing from happening? I've never noticed her doing this before.

Well, horses can break down too, I was just not clear what you were alluding to. :~D

That patch on her certainly could be a rub. It's kindof an odd spot to rub, more commonly, they rub their tail out tryin' to itch their privates... but maybe she had an insect bite there that itched. Then once she injured the skin, it probably itched more. It's kindof a self-fulfilling prophecy sometimes, when they rub.

I'm looking for a bathing suit with maximum coverage and I found this, but it needs bloomers.

I just realized how funny that sounded, I mean bloomers that go to your ankles, like the old timey swim costumes.

Chewing/eating wood is not the same as cribbing.

Cribbing is where they put their front teeth on and edge, and suck in air real hard.

Chewing/eating wood is just as bad a habit because they can eat the barn down:), but I don't think it will hurt the horse. Cribbing can kill them if they do it to much.

If your horse is cribbing there is a really good leather cribbing collar you can buy. It's called "Miracle Collar". It's will stop them dead, and stay in place unlike the metal ones. They are about $50, but they last forever. Rocky's old one was 10 years old.
