The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Here's looking down towards the main body of the camp. We parked at the edge of the woods for shade.

Harley waiting for check in in the shade:)

Stormy

Susie taking 5 on my bed:).

Celia lunging during her check in.

My check in. The man is the vet judge, the lady is the horsemanship judge. They were all looking at his bondo foot:)

Checking heart rate.

This is when I was screwing around with the lunge line, Harley took advantage and grabbed a bite.

Changing directions.

You got a great spot with that shade... that would have made all the difference for me in whether I could take it.

I didn't realize Suzie got to go :~D That made for a lot of comfort in the trailer at night I bet :~D

Did they have any concerns/observations/remarks about the bondo foot?

How did Celia and Stormy do?

What did they say about Harley's patch ? I thought that was very clever of your farrier.

Harley's gorgeous. I have a colt named Dillon, about a year old, who could be his twin. Gonna get serious about training him over the next few weeks.

Susie always goes with me everywhere:). She's my buddy.

I cannot figure out why the spot we got was not taken..it was perfect and very pleasant. We had shade from about 1:30 on thru the rest of the day.

They really didn't say anything about his foot other then to ask if it was bondo on there.

Stormy actually did very good. He got 2nd place horse. Celia didn't place. I really think because he has done this sport for so long he just knew what to expect and does it as easy as he can:). He did check out with a sore back, and he lost a a P&R point. I think he did very very well considering....but the poor guy looked very gant to by the time it was all over. She realizes he is too thin and did start giving a him a little more...I'm glad he's got till Sept to keep gaining.

Well, he does look thin, but I'd think for him to score that high he must do OK with it.

Is Sept the next ride for you, too?

Did you notice in the picture where Harley is tied to the trailer how you can hardly see the dark spot on his shoulder?

I think it's funny how it only shows up at certain times of the year.

I didn't even notice it... thought maybe the picture was of the non-sooty side! It does change a lot, doesn't it. Some of the earlier pictures... winter coat? it's almost purple.

Yeah I was surprised how well he did. I'm glad for Celia, she was really hoping he would. He won a national championship about 7 years ago with him. You have to compete in Open to do that and you build points with your placeings, so many points and you get a national championship. It's not an easy thing to do.

There are no more rides till Sept. They don't schedule them during the hottest time of the year. The one in Sept will be at the place I went last year. Then I will go to one in Nov, at the place I took the pictures of the lake at when I went for a one day pleasure ride.

Heh - funny... here, they'd only be able to hold them in June-Sept or be too muddy.

Too bad about the camera. Any more pics you were able to take?

Here's one I forgot to post. I loved the decal on the side of this truck. I've never seen one like it.

Here's a picture of Harley's spot on his shoulder. From the date on it I guess it's in the winter that you can see it more.

Hardly looks like the same horse:)

That is a pretty fancy truck. What I had noticed in the topmost picture of all the rigs is, that the truck and trailer with the camper on it looks like that truck is loaded pretty heavy with that heavy camper plus trailer. I wouldn't have wanted to pull up any grades in it.

I noticed that truck and trailer too, and there were long steep grades to go up to get to the ranch....

I was surprised by that truck looking like that too. It looks like a pretty new rig. I would have thought it could handle that.

Just curious, you WERE able to make out what that decal was on that truck??? I didn't really look at the truck, just the decal:)

It took me a minute and I was right there. Just making sure you can see, altho if you could see the womans head in my tack room, you can surely make this out:)

It depends, it might only be a half-ton suspension under all that. Whatever it is, they're asking a lot of it :~\
