This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Pictures will have to wait till tomorrow when I unpack.
This morning when I got on him, I knew something was off. He passed the vet check tho, so I took off. But he still felt off. I had a friend watch him to see if she could see what he was doing, his head wasn't bobbing. She had this guy look at him who was riding with her. Sheer coincedence he is the same one that worked on Kristy's horse. He said that Harleys stride was 6 inches shorter on the left then the right. I asked him if I should pull out and he said no, he'd be alright and he came over to my trailer when we got in and worked on him. Before he started Harley was sore in his pecs (they are where we call the chest), his withers, just about everywhere. He'd gotten that sore from protecting the hip:(, When he got done working on him he was fine everywhere but his loins, and he thinks it's still just sore from his hip being off. That's why he wants to come back again on Tues. He charged me $60 and Tues is free.
He had this roller to massage with, everytime he worked on a new muscle Harely would move away but after a few seconds he'd lean into it, and would just about go to sleep. It was amazing.

Hey I'm going back reading posts, and just saw this one, if no one else answered, yes it tis the salt subsitute made be Mortons. In a lite blue box. Lite salt has potassium and reg salt has sodium.
Becky
Congrats! Good Job! :-D
Jenny was here earlier that's why I wasn't sticking around telling you about the ride more. She's gone.
Just a few highlights:)
The vet judge had his own way of scoring,,,he explained it at the ride meeting Fri night, but I didn't catch it all. He is an endurance rider himself so he has a different prespective.
The observations were good I thought. Right off the bat Sat. morning when the horses are all fresh and rearing to go, we had a "Stop, count to 5, then move off at a walk" observation. Harley was perfect:)
After that I'm not sure of the order:), but we had to do an off side mount, Harely was great, I was terrible:), we did have a ditch available to use. We had to walk about a 50 ft horse shoe shaped trail dragging a lead rope, we did a steep down/up ditch crossing, we had to do a trot to a point, then lope. First time I have ever been asked to lope, and we had to back about 10 feet then do a 1/4 turn on the hindquarters.
We had a 3/4 mile trot into a P&R.
I only lost my brain one time on the observations, and that was the 1/4 turn on the hindquarters, I turned on the front:\
I also flubbed my check in. I had my whip and lead rope all set up to lunge him to the right. We trot out to where we circle, and I have no clue why I did it but I switched hands with everything, which got my lead rope all screwed up, and I'm waving the whip around while trying to get straight which caused Harley to keep trotting even when I said Whoa. The horsemanship judged dinged me a point and wrote on my card "Teach horse to be responsive to your commands". IMO, he was responding to my command, I was just giving the wrong commands:)
Becky
Oh, and one other thing I thought was nice. The vet judge at the check out today had brought carrots for every horse and candy bars for the riders:)
I've never had a judge do that. He was from Albu___que, New Mexico:) Very nice man. He called Harley, Mr. Palomino. Harley was the only palomino there this weekend.
For the horse awards I got a small silver plate thing with the screws to attack it to the check piece of a halter. It has the name of the ride, Indian Nation Terrioty, the date and the placing. Pretty slick:)
Becky
Thanks:)
Well, I think I need to go to bed:) I'm beat.
Becky
I bet you are beat... thanks for all the background, I look forward to the pictures.
My trainer had me do a wrong side mount once. Just about felt like I was getting on facing the wrong direction. :~D
Becky, good job on the ride! I especially like the award. What a neat thing to have. I really like that better than a trophy.
I missed the granddaughter's classes yesterday. Got there too late. There is another one today, so I better get going so I don't miss her classes again.
Have a nice Holiday, everyone.
Congratulations Becky on a fine showing! Looking forward to the photos!
That's outstanding. You should be very proud of the both of you :)
She must still be recuperating - we're waiting for pictures :~D
I am anxious for pictures but I'll contain myself :)
Farah through up her hands (figureatively speaking) with Red when he was two days old. Fancy is tougher, she puts Slick in time out when he runs and hides from her. She herds him into the shelter and then stands across the front so he can't get out. :)
through = threw
LOL :~D Well, we'd love some baby pictures today too :~D
I'll try to get out later today and take some. They are all growing like weeds, and I'm loving the personalities of the colts. Slick especially, he is constantly looking for trouble to get into.
There were two like that at our barn. One foal ran everywhere. The other mare had her's and an orphan and she kept them close. It amazed me how one could handle two while the other had problems with just the one:')
Ok, I have some pictures loading. I have to make a confession, I don't have many:\. The reason....when I was walking up from check in Fri night, I dropped the camera and Harley stepped on it. The lens shattered. It will still take a picture but the picture has lines in it:(. I'll have to get a new one. I was so aggravated about it, that I didn't even take it on Sat. By Sun I had decided to take it anyway, but then when I got on the horse and knew something was wrong everything went out of my head...I have a few pictures of camp, of Celia checking in, and she took a few of me checking in. LOL...the pictures she took of me and Harley are not good. She cut Harley in half everytime:( I tell you all of us here on FR should be photographers:), I didn't realize it was so hard to get good pictures... not a lot of people get good action shots, but the ones that do are all here on the horse thread:)
Becky
Too bad about your camera. Sounds like you had a good time. Can't wait to see Celia's pictures. I almost fell out of my saddle a few minutes ago.! (I climbed up on it in the garage. It was on top of a toy box. We were adjusting stirrups. Really makes you appreciate those cinches:')
