The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

He carries water in water bottles that have snaps one them. He carries snacks in the horn bag (he's a diabetic) generally.

I didn't ride today. I just let her get used to them. They didn't bother her at all. Even when the saddle bag blew up and over. I am going to have to buy some clips to hook it to my saddle. I guess I got every thing on ok. I think I'm going to like the saddle bags (where I have them anyway:') better than the horn bag. Any news from Becky?

I haven't seen anything yet from Becky. Wishing her and Harley the best - I'm confident they will do well.

SL is a smart horse, don't think there is much you will ask her to do that will bother her :)

Hi all - I did hear from Becky, though we must have been out of signal range ourselves at the beach house, because it went to voice mail. Her message was choppy as if the signal wasn't strong, and I didn't get all of it, but she did say that they had gotten through the first day, and she reported "a few problems but nothing major" Not sure what she meant, whether it was score issues or aches and pains she was talking about.

Good afternoon. Slept in this morning. Too much late night gaming for me, plus a whole day of yard work yesterday. Kids left for the horse show early this morning, and I will take a drive over for a bit. It's going to be very warm today.

Some good news on BARBARO

What do they mean about the jockey "pulling him up"? How fast he stopped him?

Yes. Thoroughbreds don't exactly want to stop when the rest are running, even if it hurts to go.

Hello, just got in the house.

We did good:). 4th place horse, 6th place rider, 12 riders in my division:)

He finished with 95 points!

He did have some soreness issues but it was his hip. I had a horse chiropractor work on him there, and he was immediatly better, but still lost 2 points for it.

The only thing we can figure was when he jerked the shoe, it threw him out. By today the real soreness showed up, he was compensating and had soreness on both sides. But it was a very tough ride, 50% of the hores checked out with sore backs.

3 words to best describe it: hot, rocks, and ticks:), but we did have a nice wind and it kept things bareable.

Becky

Terrific! Congratulations! WOO HOO!

Been looking in here waitin' for you to get back. Great job with him, that was quite an exertion, particularly with the heat. Now you can give him a well deserved few days off :~D

We did ~nothing~ today. Just being rather lazy and a little cranky. We're hoping to make up for that by having a better day tomorrow, something fun since ecurbh has the day off :~D

Thanks:)

Yeah, he is getting the whole week off:) He earned it.

This guy that worked on him is coming out here Tues to re-check him. To make sure everything stayed in place. I was impressed and amazed at the difference you could see immediatly in the horse.

Becky

That's interesting about the chiropractor... I know someone who swears by them, has one come out monthly for her ponies. How much did he charge?

How did you determine the soreness was in his hip? that's a tough one to diagnose.
