This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Funny thing is... I see it.
Hope you get a chance to see this before you leave. I'll be thinking about you both this weekend, you'll both do great. And remember our motto - to finish is to win :) (endurance riders motto that is)
You guys are nuts:)
Becky
Thanks Duchess, good motto:) My goal is just to finish in good condition, no sore back.
Becky
LOL. Have fun.
Thanks:)
Just heard the weather report:(, 95 and very humid tomorrow, 93 and humid Sun. Worst possible weather conditions for horses. Especially since it hasn't been around enough to really condition them for it. It is raining right now tho up where the ride will be held, so there should be alot of water along the trail, that will help.
Becky
Oh dear, sorry about the weather. I hope it's not too sweltering for you both.
Wow, had some big storms go thru last night. Raining this morning, but hopefully, it clears up for the nice long Holiday weekend.
Have a good one!
Good morning.... It's not raining here, at the moment :~D Had the horses in last night though, been wet out. It's late enough in the year now that I don't mind that we've had a late soaker like this.
Back when I was riding a QH ex-racer, a neighbor had a couple of Holsteins get out of a pasture on to the main road. We were jumping in the ring when we saw them amble by along the road, so we went after them.
"Mister" (real name: Going Limits) was 7/8 T'bred and had never herded anything, and all I had done was watch cutting competitions on TV. But we got ahead of them, and Mister acted like he had SOME herding genes somewhere way back on the pedigree. We didn't push them too hard, just got them turned and shooed them back up the shoulder and they turned back onto the neighbor's property of their own free will. . . . seemed happy to be back home. Mister was kind of preening himself (and so was I).
Nobody offered to pay us (or ask us out) - they just shut the gate (which they had left open in the first place) and we went home.
Bummer :~D Good morning!
Becky
I hope he stays purdy :~D Don't let him roll :~D
He won't be turned loose now till Sun.
Becky
Is there facility there to hose him down and cool him off after each day is over?
Yeah, and most of it will be in the air, like a steam bath. Hopefully there won't be a lot of mud to be pulling on that shoe. Conditions like that really take a lot out of you so y'all be careful and don't get too hot!
He sure is a good-lookin' hoss!
He looks great. Do you use purple on his mane and tail?
He looks great Becky! Good luck on your trail ride!
Yeah, we can hose them off, and usually do before the vet checks each day. Vets don't like checking dirty horses:\ But I am not going to put any water on his back. I want it dried out completly. I'll hose his legs and under side, the just brush the rest out dry.
