This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Your corn looks great. I love home grown corn:)
The ranch that Jenny and I worked on was a working cattle ranch. We help round cows up sometime. After a few times helping tho, we told them we would do it if they just let me and Jenny do it by ourselves. We were horseback, the ranch hands were on 4 wheelers. That just doesn't work.
Jenny and I got pretty good at gathering them. Get them on a fence line, then one person stayed at the back on one on the open side and if you just kept them at a walk or slow slow trot, we could move them anywhere. The 4 wheelers tended to get the cows moving to fast and unnerve the horses.
I've also team penned a little. But that got to wild and wooly for me:) The kids loved it tho.

Team penning and cutting would be fun. I don't want to get down and wrestle with the steer, but I think driving him around with the horse is kinda fun.
The owner of the cow I caught came by and tried to give me $20 reward for doing it... I said - ah heck no, it was fun! Then he asked me if I wanted to go out sometime. I was take aback a little by that and nicely said no, that I had a boyfriend... and he was a LOT older than me. I was what, 22-23... he had been grey awhile. Bob said I should have, that that guy owns most of the open land in the area, and has a ton of money... OH WELL, guess it wasn't my fate to be rich :~D
LOL, how funny. He must have thought he'd found the prefect woman, one that thought it fun to go catch a cow:)
Team penning is a great sport. It doesn't take a highly trained horse, or even one with much cow sense. I team penned on my Arab more then I have on any of my Quarters. They just need to be able to be controlled, and respond quick to cues.
For the three years that Mack and I ran the local round up club we team penned every Tues night from spring till fall. It always drew a pretty good crowd. We charged $10 and you could pen all night. Charlies friend Joe from the ranch provided the cows. He was guaranteed $50, got the first $150, and any more then that he split with the club. We didn't make lots of money, but we had alot of fun, which was the main point. In the fall the first week that we didn't make the $50 we would stop it for the winter.

And would turn down his $20. :~D
He just thought I was funny rounding up cows in and English Saddle!
I think there's something like that here, too... Tiff went a couple times. She said there was no expectation that anyone really be good at it, it was all for fun.
Sorry about that, hon. ;~D
I think things turned out just fine :~*
We had a girl that penned on icelandic ponies on a bareback pad.

How far north of Tulsa? I was just in Oolagah last weekend, I think that is about 30 miles north of Tulsa. It sure is flatland out there. Enjoy your ride this weekend! I am envious. I will be stuck in a car headed to Ohio to visit my brother in the hospital. Baby brother needs me so that is where I need to be.
John Zink is in Skiatook, and that is almost straight west of Oolagah. Around that area there are some rolling hills.
There is a place in Oolagah where there are good trails to ride. I've been there once. They were around the lake there.

I'm heading home from work now so if I don't get to talk to you again before you leave, have a nice, safe trip and ride, and enjoy yourself. I'm crossing my fingers for you to win best overall and I'll look forward to your pictures when you get back.
Thanks, you have a good holiday weekend too:)

The way you have things packed.....It looks like African art:')
OOPs. Didn't finish. Do you see the womans head? :')
I"m going riding with my new friends soon. Right now, I'm going to take my trailor to have the tires checked and then the flooring. Aftter that, I'm getting it painted.
Relax. Have fun and enjoy your ride. Ribbons are just icing. Winning, is Harley and you enjoying the reward of all your hard work of practicing and being able to yell "we did it".
Thanks:)
No, what womans head???
Becky

Holy smokes, Hair, I just saw the post about the cat and kittens and I'm so sorry. How disappointed you must be.
Thanks tuffy :~\ It's a hard world for the little things.
