Thanks everyone! :-D Congrats to you too Duchess!
So what is your plan now? Not sure I know...
Congratulations Beaker. Must have stopped raining for this great day!
How wonderful! Another colored colt. Woot!
Wow! Congratulations!!! That is a great accomplishment.
Hey where are you? I just got back from Dad's. Bought some cars from him. I checked the mail when I got back. I had another letter from the State. 4 more defiencies with my application. The guy told me even the pros had to fix stuff but this is getting depressive. I wish I had just bought used mobile homes like I wanted to. Oh yeah. They sent me a bill reminding me when my next quarterly payment is, too:'). Oh well, I can't let this overwhelm me. One deficiency at a time, I guess.
AWWW. Congratulations to you too. My 70 something y/o father is talking about buying a Golden Eagle to ride to Alaska in July. A buddy of his, invited him. He's trying to figure out where to put the "boys" (his dogs). Said something about a side car. Funny.
What happened to Barbaro?
Broke his rear leg in two places, running, right at the start of the race. It's a critical injury, devastating for anyone without a ton of money to put into surgery. Won't know yet whether it'll heal well enough for him to have a life but he won't race again.
I was just reading thru the live posts. I'm glad I wasn't watching. I have avoided watching horses race live since I saw that one that got killed in Louisana. Even during the KD, when they had a front view, instead of thinking faster I was saying "don't trip, don't trip" How sad for the owner. Maybe he can still live a long and happy life. There is more to horses than just running. Poor guy.
But hey, didn't they say that about Sea Biscuit, too? :')
If it will heal. The lower fracture is evidently in pieces, he'll have surgery to reconstruct it, too early to tell if it will ultimately work.
Is it a stress fracture or did he hit it? I saw some posts about a problem at the gate.
Not sure if it was related to the incident at the gate, where he broke out early in a false start. A broken back leg isn't really what I'd assume from busting out of the gate.
He slowed and looked fine, they led him back around and reloaded him in the gate, and he broke down in the first part of the race. The fracture to the cannon bone happened first, stress fracture I guess, and the pastern, below the fetlock came apart as the jockey tried to get him stopped he was running on it.
Dang, if it isn't raining again this morning. Bad day for my daughter's club's horse show. Hopefully, it will clear up.
I hope it clears up for you too and your daughter too...
Bring the camera, and hope for a break in the weather!
Did you read some of the articles on the one link this morning? This one in particular. LINK
Huh - too bad. Weird is the "he never acted this way before"... sounds like pit bull owners after an attack. You'd think if he was a rank unmanageable stallion, he'd have been difficult to handle before just snapping one morning on the way back from the breeding shed.
I have to think they wouldn't have put him down unless they had to... it seems it was a cool and considered decision after some thought and discussion.
Seattle Slew was a favorite of mine.
