This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Agreed. Our life is pretty simple... and we'll never have a 4,000 SF house. We'll have a small house and a BIG barn :~D
Amen Sister!
What a great picture:). I love it.
Back from the ride. We did a good 3 hours. The shoe is still on:).
Dam horse did trip tho on the way home, on a smooth hard packed trail. Scared me to death. He had some head bobbing going on, but after a while it went away, so I'm hoping he just twisted it and it was just momentarily sore. There was nothing to step on. I swear the gods are against me:)
I think he's OK. We are going to ride again tomorrow afternoon.
Becky
You ought to consider wrapping both you and the horse in bubble wrap till after this ride! :~D
I hope that thing is doing that when I'm there:)
Becky
Heh... It would be terrific if it was :~D It was steaming last year the day we took Overtaxed up there.
She's quieter now, but still alive :~D
LOL, I think you're right.
I got off and checked his feet, but there was nothing there. I was having a coniption fit tho:). "If I don't make it to this ride I quit, $#@% horse." Celia was having a hard time not to laugh.
I try so hard to do everything right for my horses...Mack says tho when you ride like I do, things are going to happen, just part of the deal...but I hate that.
Becky
Mack's right. It's just human and animal and nature. Two steps forward, one step back.
I just never had these kind of issues with Belle. That horse was as sound as sound can be. Of course she was mentally an idiot. I just think if you keep them in shape this sort of thing shouldn't happen.
Oh well, he seems fine now, so It must have just been a moment thing.
Becky
Some are certainly hardier than others. Bay, I think, was one of those who never had a bad day when he was young. Easy keeper, easy athlete. That he has wear and tear now is just a function of his age and the inevitable wear and tear of that kind of conditioning. For every mile of conditioning, there is also wear and tear that will show up eventually.
Harley's been good in that regard, it's the saddle fit and pre-ride shoeing that's been your challenge. It's those gods you need to appease :~D
I guess:)
I think I have appeased the saddle fitting god:). He's not been sore so far, knock on wood. Please saddle god....:)
Just checked the weather for tomorrow...yikes. 94, and we aren't going to get started tomorrow till afternoon. Going to be hot.
Becky
You're at least acclimated to that kind of heat... I wilt at 85 :~D
Well, I've been out weeding my rockery, now I'm gonna mow.
Celia told me today that she is going to go ahead and go open at the ride. That means I'll be riding by myself, which in a lot of ways I prefer. I like conditoning with her or anyone for that matter, but at a competition I like being left alone. But there are draw backs to being alone to. The horses "can" get more nervous by themselves with horses passing them and passing others. But Harley seems to do OK with that.
I feel bad for Stormy. I think he'll do it, but I don't think he'll do it comfortably. Not that he'll lose points for conditioning altho he could, but I think it's going to wear him out, a lot. She just likes the faster speeds. She says she gets sore going to slow. I don't think the 4mph pace is all that slow, especially given the terrain we will be in. With all the hills and rocks, when you can you really need to move out.
She also told me that so far there are only 34 entries. so it looks like the classes will be small. Gas prices probably the cause.
Becky
I've got to go get cleaned up. I'm meeting Mack in town. We're going to hang around his office down there. he's going to practice his drums, I might nap:), then we'll eat.
See you all later.
Becky
Hmmmmmm, doesn't sound like the former is all that conducive to the latter if you ask me. ;o)
LOL, you know he use to have his drums here, and thank goodness, they just don't bother me. I don't know why, but I can tune them out. His office building is so much bigger that it isn't even as loud there as at home.
Becky
Well, I hope the best for both of you, and both horses. It'd definately be good to find a partner that you are really compatible with, pace and goal-wise, and maybe you'll find that person at the ride.
Spam:)
Almost time for a new thread.
Becky
