The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Separate amnion sacs, one big placenta.

Wow, I didn't know that could happen:)

So was anyone with her while she was foaling, or did you just find them this morning?

Hmm.. Yeah, she can take dressage lessons in it. It's not exactly the right seat, but it'll work for her, for training. If she's got a flexible trainer, she'll end up with a really nice deep seat in a forward saddle. :~D

It's pretty darned close to where it needs to be. The guidelines say that the inside rim of the toe should be anywhere from 1/4 inch to 3/4 of an inch, depending on the size of the foot, and since I can't really get a good sense of how big his foot is from pictures, it's kinda hard to tell. I can show you a picture of Blade's shoes. He's got the Aluminum NBs on. I think he wears an ought (0) on the front...

Actually Blade is wearing a 00, he put a 3 on Jake!

Well, I've been in a dilemma wondering if I should tell her that mine is not a "dressage" saddle. But I was thinking, it's AP, so it should be ALL purpose. And I can't really see her following thru anyway. From what she has said, that's pretty much just a dream. But she did want to lighten the load on her horse altho, Beth is a tiny thing. I thought when she test rode it her horse looked nice in it. He is an Arab. Most horses do look nice in them exept the really bulky horses like Rocky. He looks hilarious in one, IMO.Becky

Bob's mule looked a little funny it it too, but most horses look quite dignified in it. :~D

Saw this article in our local paper and it brought tears to my eyes. Horses at Gettysburg and the part those noble creatures played in the battle.

Is it a regular all purpose saddle? I ride in an all purpose and do just fine. (Some dressage people may cringe) :-)

LOL, I bet:)

I think yesterday when I talked to her and told her the day late, or dollar short, the deals off got to her. She KNOWS she isn't dependable. I mean she always pays up, eventually:). She's come down here and borrowed money to go get cigarettes, and has never paid back WHEN she said. That was no big deal tho, not enough to worry about, but it alerted me to how she works.

I told her yesterday, she couldn't call me and say she had had an emergency, I had to have ALL the money WHEN it was due. That, I need this money NOW, or it wasn't going to do me much good.

That is SO interesting! I sure am glad they got themselves sorted out all right as to who was coming out first because the logistics of trying to figure out who's legs were who's would've been a nightmare if you'd been required to help. It scares me to death just thinking about it. I just recently had 2 mares foal and had to help pull one of them because a leg wasn't presented right. I had the vet on the phone and at first I thought I was going to have to push the foal back and straighten the leg but it turned out that I didn't have to and I sure was glad. Congrats on two beautiful healthy foals. Do you think the mare will have enough milk for both or do you think you'll have to do some supplemental bottle feeding?

Hey, Good Deal on selling the saddle! That was some creative thinking on her part. I'll bet you're tickled pink!

I have been to Gettysburg to visit, it is such an undescribable feeling you get standing on those grounds where thousands of soldiers and horses died, it sent chills through me. I took a organized tour and was glad I did, those tour guides have so much great knowledge they pass on. It is truly well worth the visit and I would do it again. That was a great article.

It was a rather scary deal! :~D

Works out just great for you, and a lot easier than trying to ship it to someone if you sold it on ebay.

Actually it was my idea to do it this way:), I don't think her husband was real thrilled about it:).

I planned on every bit I made off this saddle would go towards my new one, and this way I wouldn't be dealing with payments from her. She can make the payments to the credit card company and take as long as she wants. I really think that would have gotten hairy with her, and even tho I spelled out the details to her on payments I don't know if I could have been that much of a hard @$$, and I know it would have come down to that....this is a relief.

Hehehe. Sorry. I meant an all purpose saddle. By regular I meant not specialized like a forward seat or dressage saddle. :-)

...he put a 3 on Jake!

Jeez Louise that's a big shoe! But I guess he needed it for those big ol' flat pancake feet, even with all that toe flare cut off. When his feet start to get in better shape his shoe size will go down.

I'll post a pic for everybody to see how his feet looked before and after. It's incredible how much toe he was able to cut off...

I think it is considered forward seat????

You'd have to ask Hair, it's just like hers.
