Just imagine getting 100,000 of those things together right outside your house!

I really think it's something I would want to check BEFORE showing up at the airport with it:)

Probably wise... Heh.

And actually, spring is probably a better time to move them than July, though they're pretty hardy. In the next month or so, they're still dormant, but getting ready to send up their new shoots. All the prior year's fronds die anyway. That's a super time to move them. So I think I will go dig one up in the next couple weeks and mail it. If I dig up a big one, I could split it into a few smaller ones :~D

Well that would be cool and I'd love to have one:)

You see them around here but always in pots. i was shocked to see they grow in the wild all by themselves:)

I wonder if they would survive here outside in my garden. I'd love to have it there. I'll have to get some info about them. It may be around here you have to keep them in the house. It might be they wouldn't do well in our heat.

I've never had much luck with keeping ferns in the house. I'll bet it'd do ok outside as long as you found a shady spot for it and put lots of leaf mulch down in the hole. Keeping it watered would be the biggest thing coz I'm sure that being from WA, it'd be used to lots of rain.

Well, I'm still holding out for March 6th. If there's a pool that's the date I pick. Only three more days :) I'm glad she's feeling okay.

I understand completely! I corresponded for several years over the Internet with a group of friends who also were into dressage. We had never met each other but became good friends through our emails to each other.

One of them from Colorado came down to visit me once. And, then, I took a trip to Spain with family. While I was there, I got on the Spanish equivalent of Greyhound and travelled 6 hours up the coast to visit Shelley whom I had never met in person. We had a wonderful visit and even went on a trail ride. I got to ride the most beautiful white Andalusian stallion. We still keep in touch today.

The ones you see in pots are Boston ferns... these are bigger, at least in the wild, and not as 'soft'.

They'd do better outside than in the house. It'd be best if it's a sortof shady spot, like under the eaves of the house... They just need a lot of water when it's hot, and they need for the dirt to be soft and not too compacted... My soil is pretty black and full of lots of composty material under the trees, but I see them growing in red clay up in the forest.

We have a type of fern sold around here called "Kimberly Queen" that grows well in sunlight. They seem to be tough as nails so that's the only kind I'll buy. Boston ferns just wither up and die on me. As you can tell, I kinda like my ferns...

I like them too. And when they're big you can dig them up and split them to get more. Hack them into pieces.

They're pretty hardy too... So I think they'd make it in OK. Here's a shot of them in a clear cut... they come through and pretty much smash everything when they log, and the ferns are the first thing to come back. They'll live there in full sun for 10 years before the trees shade them again, and it gets pretty hot and dry up there.

I think I'll go look for some to dig up today :~D It's worth a shot anyway!

That's pretty amazing! The only thing that comes back when they clearcut here is blackberry bushes, scrub pine and briars. Yeouch!
