The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Is there a lot of difference in quality? This one from them is 24 dollars for the combo

The differences would be in the buckles and clips. I can't tell from the picture but it looks okay. And my thoughts are always, get an inexpensive one and try it before spending a lot of money on one. See if you like it first. We have several of them here.

Oh yes. That's what Bob and Tracey use on endurance, plus several of the head stalls we use for trail are those. I think Bob likes the ease of changing bits, plus having the halter for cross tying when he wants.

Don't you get RFD-TV? There is a new show called Al Ragusin Horse Training and the guy is a total dork. He was explaining different kinds of tack and had 3 saddles lined up on saddle racks, an english, western and an australian stock saddle. He was explaining how difficult it was to sit correctly in an english saddle and had a girl sit in it to show the problems with correct body placement. She was sitting with her feet way out in front of her and had her butt all the way to the back of the saddle, the saddle was too small as well. She didn't even try to sit correctly, for emphasis, I assume. (would have been easier had the saddle been on a horse). He also called a pelham bit a "pel-HAM" bit. (it's pronounced "pellam"). What do they do, get these guys off any street corner, put a cowboy hat on them and call them professional horsemen?

Yeah, I get RFD, but I don't watch it much. I watched some Clinton Anderson, but when he started riding polo horses, I stopped. I like his training episodes, but that would be all I'm interested in.

I like Craig Cameron and Chris Cox. Chris Cox will work with problem horses and actually show the problem, not just talk about it. He has one show where he works with a bucker and that horse was buckin' like a bugger.

What idiots. That's all I have to say, and I think it says it all. ;-)

I watch RFDTV simply because I like seeing the horses. (That aspect of my personality hasn't changed since I was five.. I'll admit it!) But the only thing I Really like to watch is the freestyle or grand prix dresage programs that they have on there from time to time.

Good Morning.

Thanks for all the nice compliments on my granddaughter. It will be so nice spending the summer with her. She has another show Sunday, that I will be going too. It looks like my daughter won't be going to many barrel racing shows this year.. :)

How's the rain situation down there now, any better. We got another batch thru the night, and they are predicting more all week.

I was telling Mack, that at some point, even tho we are "behind" the average, we have to be caught up. I'd say we (here in OK) have to be there now. The ground seems pretty saturated here.

I love Dressage Connection. Very informative and the horses are incredible.

Really, you should watch the freak I was talking about, just to see it once. An unbelievable amount of BS information.

It's much, much better. My tank is half full, the ground is saturated here, too. Lots of mud.

Morning folks...as promised no more luking for me.I had posted the pic of the bay roan with chopped up mane last week. We picked him up Saturday and boy is he quiet and smart.

I've got my first show coming up this weekend. PA is under a drought watch, so of course the forecast is for chilly and rain on Thursday and Friday. Friday is our first class and I guess we'll be jogging and loping in the muck.

Oh well, anything beats sitting here at work!!

Oh dear... and the show is outside?

Well, if you're in a drought, but have a horse show coming up, what weather are we supposed to hope for? :~D

I'll hope for rain Thursday to keep the dust down, but dry weather Friday. Will there be someone there to take pictures of ya to post? This is our priority you know :~D

Show is outdoors. At least this ring can take plenty of rain and still have very good footing. Not sure about pics. Will depend if I buy any from the show photog. Mom shows with me but her specialty is taking pictures of her fingers over the lense!
