This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Sorry it's so blurry, but the center was a white hairy looking thing, almost like a dandelion.
I also noticed for the first time this year, that my red bud tree has buds on it already.
Becky
Hey now that's a great plan:)
Becky
Wow, I've never heard that.
I hate cicadas,,,ugh,,,I had an aunt that use to catch them and tie a long string on them and hold on to it while they flew around. She'd bring them in the house:) I think she was one taco short of a family pack:)
Becky
Yeah! That's what I was talking about when I said it was full of webby-looking stuff. It's slmost like a spider web egg case inside a shell.
Maybe we could plan that for the summer of 2007.
Becky
Well, I think we can tell it's a bug, and not a snake (I wondered!)
Hmm... what if you did put the other two in a jar for awhile!
Baby watch update: Nothing:(.
She went to bed slept good, contractions have all stopped.
Becky
I am going to keep it and see what happens. I've laid it on the table with all my plant stuff for now. I'll find a jar sometime today.
Becky
LOL!!! I've done that, it's fun! But then I'm one taco short of a family pack too. I like to catch them and give them to the cat to play with. It's hysterical to watch them run around with one in their mouth that's screaming like a jackhammer and you can tell the cat's thinking, "Jeez! I wish this thing would shut up! It's giving me a headache." You can hear the noise echoing from inside their mouth.
Sounds terrific to me... and with your milder temps, it could even work as a fall/winter/early spring thing.
Yeah, you'll come back and there'll be a tiny hole in them and what-ever-it-is will be in your house. ;o)
Well, the only thing I know for sure about babies... is they don't just decide not to come :~D Soon :~D
We don't have any bugs big enough to tie a string on :~0
LOL, that's why I'm going to find a jar FAST:)
Becky
I just don't like bugs, especially the ones that are crunchy. UGH, Susie eats katydids sometimes, gag, I can't stand it. They screech and crunch like a cicada would.
Becky
That is one of the things that sounds very tempting about WA. not much in the bug department:)
And about digging me up a fern. I'd love that, but will they let me bring it home on the plane?
Becky
I think so... Especially in your checked bag. I think if we dig it up and cut off the fronds, you can just take the roots with you in a big plastic baggie.
I don't ~think~ you'll get busted for contraband :~D
Maybe I'll just dig one up and mail it to you.
The normal ones are about 2 inches long, not including the wings and the 17 year ones are about an inch and a half. They look like this...
We were right on the edge of "Brood X" in 2004, it looks like there's another 13 year brood that's coming up in 2011 too...
Brood X (17-year)
Brood XIX (13-year)
More than you ever wanted to know ain't it! ;o)
That ain't a bug, it's a bird :~D
I just wondered. I remember years and years, and years:) ago, I was on vacation with my parents and we got stopped at a state border, and they asked if we were transporting any plant life.
I really think it's something I would want to check BEFORE showing up at the airport with it:)
Talking about it has made me excited about coming so I sat down and figured my budget again:) I really think I could make it at the first of July. I just have to watch the little stuff:)
I'll post my budget on the fridge to keep me in check:)
