The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

We are too :~D Was a good trip. I forgot to mention, I saw my friend Nancy in the parking lot, she was just getting back. She was on her new Welsh pony she's training for pony club eventing. When she's done she will sell him for big bucks. She was with a seven year old student.

My doctor (who stables horses where I do) bought 2 minis this week. They are so cute. I'll get pics tomorrow. Couldn't today.

Wonderful pictures there. Sounds like you had a good first ride :)

Had to include a picture of another good horse.

Beautiful pictures:)

It has rained here ALL day, a good nice misting, soaking rain. I'd say our drought is over. Hopefully now we will get some sun. I'm ready for a ride, especially after seeing you all's pictures.

Don't you just love it how they get spooky over things they've seen hundred times.

Mack as the Derby to play, have to go watch.

Wow, did you notice that buckskin horse that the lady that was interviewing the winning jockey was riding!!! Dang that was a nice looking horse:)

He was pretty, and if we were seeing the same horse, he's wearin' a pad that says "Bob Baffert"... He's a favorite of mine, he's really cool.

We're tired, loungin' on the couch. We may get rain tonight. Should prep stalls and let the horses in if so, after all, we're tired, but they carried our butts, so they're likely more in need of a good night's sleep than we are :~D

When we build a cabin at the lake I want a metal roof so I can lay on the couch and listen to the rain.

I liked the way the jockey just kind of stroked the horses neck after they passed the finish line.

Ladies I need some advice. I'm thinking of getting an English Saddle for Tracey and my niece to ride - we've about decided to show Indy and Quest English.

Is 17" the right size to get? I know you described the measuring, Hair, however I don't remember much about it except I'm thinking 17".

17-18 is a fairly normal size to get, and are readily available... the key is to sit in a couple and see.

What size is yours? I can't have the girls sit in them since I'm still thinking about it but if I do, it will be a surprise for them. They both have fits if Bob or I spend money that benefits them.

I think mine's an 18 but I'm not positive. If they're normal size people they'll fit in a 17.

Thank you. Did it feel large enough - comfortable?

Yes, it was fine. I think a 17 would have worked too, but I like alot of room:)

Thanks both of you. I think a 17" will work fine then for both of them. Tracey is tall but thin but she likes a roomy saddle. Shelley is short but a little heavier.
