This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Nah. Didn't even rain. Just laid in bed and watched the lightening. I can't believe I was gonna go out in it though:')
A long, long day, I am beat. No first's in Halter but a 1st in Western Pleasure Green Horse. We had our Judge who doesn't like appys but the riding classes aren't subjective. We hit this judge once every year, and just have a good time. So, 2nds, 3rd, two 6ths on Prez in Halter :), I think a 4th, and one class Prez didn't even place but he picked up his wrong lead there.
Will tomorrow be soon enough for pictures?
Poor guy - he's as bad as Sonny. After spending his first 14yrs out in all kinds of weather with no shelter, he turned into a primadona when he got here - he hates bad weather of any sort and stays in the stall.
Can't blame him.
We've got rain and lightening coming in here tonight - strangest weather. I'm glad you didn't have any problems.
That was my thought - he knows he's got a sweet deal now and really takes advantage of it.
She looks so much like the Arab mare I had. Pretty horse.
I'm headed to bed. Everyone have a good night. (weren't we supposed to see pictures of babies, or is that tomorrow?)

When it's just continous rain or esp when it goes from hot to cold, I bring mine in. In storms though I would rather them be out. The barn is old and of tin and it's like a roar, when it's storming. You literally have to yell to talk. The horses all scream and kick the walls. They could get injured from flying debris I guess but they seem to have a strong survival instinct which maybe is why the barn in a storm is so scary to them. I wish they had an option of coming and going.
She said Monday.
Me too. Celia and I are hoping to ride tomorrow if it's not raining.
Looking forward to your pictures.
Becky
How tragic. I'm so sorry.
"Will tomorrow be soon enough for pictures?"
Ooooo pictures! Waiting...getting impatient....
Good Lord, how awful. Prayers for the families.
Oh how terribly tragic. No, you wouldn't expect a camper to be that air tight. His family and friends must be shattered.
Unless I lock them in, mine that are in the barn all have the option of staying in their stalls or going out into their paddocks. I rarely lock anyone in unless it's a mare getting ready to foal or someone with a show the next day.
Pictures from yesterday's show :) Loading my car before sunrise (I take the cooler with lunch and snacks; paperwork; hats; and I make the stop at McDonalds for breakfast for everyone)
Tuffy, first class of the day. He placed second. A friend took first with her Arab black stallion - I thought I had gotten a picture of him but I didn't. He is gorgeous, 18 mos old and should be a movie star.
Prez, halter class. He took third.
Friday, halter class. She didn't place at all so we scratched her from her second class, Halter Color.
Tuffy again, Halter Color - he took 3rd, Prez took 6th.
Another friend and her mare. Mare took 1st in one of the English classes.
Prez and Tracey in the Western Pleasure classes. They took a 1st, 6th, and a 2nd.
Tuffy is still too thin but we are having to keep his weight down because of his surgery. He'll be allowed to gain so weight by this fall and then will look considerably better.
Nice pictures, Duchess. 4:40 AM! I remember those days. Granddaughter has her first show next weekend. She will be doing walk-trot this year.
Becky, so sad to hear about the tragedy.
