The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

OK, what does Reserve high enough mean?

LOL,,,so do you think I sure needed one because my was so wore out, or because the fit was so bad:). sniff, I liked my wore out saddle:) Stanley laughed at me too when I said I didn't want to ride in a shiny bright new saddle because it make me look like a greenhorn:). You could tell he thought I was nuts too:)

I just feel there is a very good chance I'd need my old one again. Heck that's the one I'd ride Rocky in if I ride him.

That's enough reason :~D, but so's sentiment. If you can afford to keep it, do. You can't afford to replace it as a spare.

That's a really nice looking saddle! The black suede seat you're ordering will look better than the one in the picture I think. Adding the d-ring conchos with tie-straps is a good idea too. Like Hair says, you can never have too many d-rings.

They had a saddle there with the black seat and I really liked it. Especially since I've got Harley all in black too.

The Reserve is the price below which you're not willing to sell it. If you don't specify a reserve, then if nobody bids higher than say a dollar, then you gotta sell it for that. I don't know what you paid for your Wintec, but I think I'd set the reserve at maybe $50 lower than that, or maybe the same if you include all the pads and girth and stuff. You also need to specify that the bid does not include shipping. You might want to box it up and take it to the nearest UPS office and see how much they'll charge to ship it. I know that shipping depends on where it's going to, and you won't know that, but it'll give you a ballpark idea. Then you gotta decide if you're gonna offer shipping insurance on it, coz that's extra. And you might want to specify that the sale is only to the lower 48 states, no overseas. That kinda thing.

And I think you needed a new one because the old one didn't fit, not that it looked bad. It had "Character". ;o) And I don't think anyone woule mistake you for a "greenhorn" in a shiney new saddle. That term applies to an attitude and a state of being, not to the way you look. Anybody who sees you ride will know that you ain't one of those.

I've never sold anything on eBay, just bought a couple of things, so I don't know if you have to do anything different to your PayPal account or not.

Oh, and my new farrier called and cancelled on me this afternoon. Seem he's got kidney stones that have got to come out, so he's going to call me back as soon as he's back in action again, which he thinks will be Saturday. Hopefully he'll be able to get around to me the first part of next week coz Bob's feet are horribly overgrown. He's at 8 wks already and he's got hoof hanging over the shoe all over the place.

Can a guy work on horse feet the Saturday after having kidney stones removed? I thought that's a pretty major surgery.

Butting in here - you can never have too many saddles, keep the old one :) They are sorta like diamonds.

Can a guy work on horse feet the Saturday after having kidney stones removed?...

Apparently so. I don't think they're actually cutting him, I think it's probably what they call a "basket procedure" where they go up through the urethra with some kind of catheter and snag it and pull it back out. It still doesn't sound like a real fun thing to have done, but it's better than the knife. I think they do this when the stones are either too big or are in a place where the lithotripsy won't work. I'm just glad it ain't me! ;o)

I'm having a Texas Ruby Red Grapefruit for breakfast this morning and I was thinking, can you get Texas Ruby Reds up there? We get Washington apples.

I don't know... I don't know my grapefruit - I can't stand 'em!

But good morning :~D

You can't stand 'em because you've never had a Texas Ruby Red! :) Honestly, I don't like them much, either, but these are tasty with lots of sugar.

And good morning to you, too. It was 93 degrees here yesterday, a new record. Gonna be in the upper 60's to low 70's today, a cool front came through.

The first saddle I ordered will be like the "Tennessean" saddles that National Bridle sells for gaited horses. It'll have a Steele Equi-Flex tree and look like this, only with a darker chocolate finish, basket weave tooling on the skirts and pommel and leather covered endurance stirrups...

The second one I just ordered is from a different Amish guy and will be like the Tucker Endurance modle and will look like this, only in black with stainless hardware, and the seat will be smooth instead of stitched...

Even for Texas that's pretty unusual. One year, when we were still living in a neighborhood, we didn't get any freezes after the beginning of February. All the trees bloomed out very early and my next door neighbor had a couple of peach trees. She had so many peaches that year that she took to leaving them on the neighbor's doorsteps. I couldn't go out the front door without tripping on bags of peaches. You didn't dare leave your car unlocked or it would be plumb full of peaches.
