The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

WOO HOO!! I just got a call from my MIL and Bluebell has FINALLY had her baby. I don't know anything about it other than it has a star on it's forehead. MIL didn't want to get any closer and bother them. I'm on my way out there now. I plan on doing a little imprinting this afternoon and I'll probably take off tomorrow morning and do a little more. You can be sure that there'll be plenty of pictures when I get back.

The awl and/or the gimlet would be great to have on the trail. You would be able to punch holes in leather to repair broken tack until you could get home or to the trailer. Neat tool, although I have no idea what you might use the little hammer thing for.

Well, maybe you can figure it out, and write a little report on it for us. You get Byrd Harp number two. Please freepmail me with your address. And I'd love to hear if you ever find a use for the little hammer.

Oh, the tool is all stainless steel, so it shouldn't rust. A friend keeps the Leatherman multitool I bought her ages ago in the barn. It's the only tool that hasn't turned into a lump of rust.

Those are fabulous pictures, and everyone looks great...

Been doing anything interesting with that baby?

And how's the mare doing with her feet?

I was thinking of selling the baby but I can't decide. I haven't had time to do much with her, other than the basics. She's finally getting used to being sprayed with fly spray. Funny thing is, she never minded electric clippers around her ears but hates being sprayed with fly spray. What a weirdo.

The mare looks sound at every gait. Hope that nerving lasts awhile.

Glad to hear it about the mare.

As for the baby... well, there isn't a whole lot you ~can~ do with her yet, she sure is pretty. I've never met a horse that wasn't a little bit distrusting of fly spray.

She would go absolutely nuts when I sprayed the fly spray. I saw a special on RFDTV about training a fearful horse to accept fly spray. Since the spray is so expensive, you fill the bottle with water and get them used to it that way. I thought I was going to have to go that route but she finally settled down.

I had a very productive day. I've needed a new breast collar and have been looking at ones that match my saddle. So expensive. I finally decided that a black nylon one would look just as good as a leather one, and I got one for $13.00 at Pet Smart. Next time I have him saddled (maybe this evening, for sure tomorrow) I'll get pictures.

I also got the tie rings put on my saddle today. There are 4 of them 2 in the back 2 in the front.

AND, I'm so excited, I got my new weed trimmer.

LOL, you sound like me. I love my trimmer. I had one just like this a few years back. I had my pasture looking wonderful by just keeping the weeds cut down. But you can't mow my pasture with a regular mower, the rocks tear up the blades. But this thing works great. Someone stole my old one out of the yard. It's the only thing we've ever had stolen here.
