The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Huh. I would have thought they would have tested obstacles for difficulty first.

Well they check them out. All the open riders had already been thru this observation point, and a few of the novice riders had done it. I don't think it was a matter of safety, it was more experience. This rider was a novice rider. I guess once she went down they figured it might be to tough for the novice class.

Well, a steep hil with a log at the top would be tricky for anyone :~\

I just can't wait to take you riding here so you can compare with other places you've been... The forest is ALL hills, but not a lot of super steep, they do switchbacks, or have made the trails to go around the side of the hill or follow along the bottom, hardly ever super steep, at least for very long.

I'll be darned if I know what caused it. Hopefully, whatever it was, I'll never run into it again. Still covered with rash and welts (under the calamine lotion) and itching like crazy. I'm not taking any Benadryl tonight because last night was like I was on speed or something - could not sleep a bit. The only unusual or different thing was the Benadryl. Definately a very weird couple of days.

That's strange that you still have the rash and whelps.

You sure you didn't get into any poison oak or something?

The last weekend of May. And it's my favorite ride of all the ones I've ever been too. It's at a big ranch in a town just west of Tulsa, so it's very close, only about a 1 hour drive. I like it because it's challenging enough to be interesting, but not as hard as the ones like in Ark. Ark. is fun, but by the end of the day, you are just beat to death:). The hills there are all long and steep because it's in the Kiamichi Mountains. I like it because it does challenge you, and I was going to go to it this year, but it's this weekend and my horse isn't in shape. It's one of those rides, you don't realize you're having fun till you've gotten back home and rested for a day:) I've been to this ride probably about 5 times and every ride several horses colic or tie up, and once a horse died. I pulled out one time, because Belle was struggling. But it's also the place we got 1st place horse and rider, and high point combo and high point quarter horse:). I was very proud of her that weekend and sailed thru the 4 hour trip home singing at the top of my voice:). It was a real rush.

While I was sitting at the bottom waiting my turn, I was thinking, if it wasn't for those logs, (there were 2) I wouldn't be worrying:) You could tell watching that was the biggest difficulty factor about the whole thing.

Celia will be here again around 9. We hope we can get in a really good workout ride today. Yesterday we were having political discussions, and for got to really work them:). By the time we realized we were slacking, I had to get home to be here for when Jenny got here:).

I'm riding this evening and maybe tomorrow. I have some work I have to do first. I've set myself a goal that I ride twice a week, now that I have more daylight. Lately I have even being making 3 but this week has only been once so far. I have had to work late most every day this week.

Good Morning.

We had a lot of rain last night, and it looks like more today. With the warm weather, everything is popping out now.

Whose riding today?

We might be... just here at home, shake down cruise for ecurbh and Cyn... Want to get everyone bathed, clipped, lunged, and ridden this weekend.

Cyn's in heat though... Might make her moody.

We've got clear skies, which means it actually got colder last night than it has been. I think it's in the 30s. I mowed the grass that we seeded already on the lawn for the first time yesterday, the first mow always beats it up a little but it's coming along good. We put down some more seed to thicken it up a little hopefully :~D

The part we seeded is right off the porch, right in front of the house, that we pretty much have to seed and block off every year for a couple months, it get so much abuse.

Well have good rides.

We're back did about 4 hours. It's just now starting to get really hot. We did "work" today. Lot's and lots of long trotting. When we first went out we got about pretty far from home and suddenly Nikki showed up with us. We had to bring her home. She just can't keep up, and by the time we did get here she was stumbling every few steps. I locked her in my trailer and we took off again. We followed that trial I found the other day and it is a great trail for trotting and makes a very nice loop.

We ran into a couple of kids on 4 wheelers and they told us where some more trails are that they have made, I think we are going to try exploring them the next time we go out.

It was a great ride:). Harley gets tomorrow off:). I wanted to show you, NO Dry Spots.

When we got back, Celia was standing looking at Stormy, and said, I think I need to up his feed:) Yea!!!!!
