Usually they peel off easily... I peeled off some of the fronts, but his backs were quite a bit harder. They get easier if you can soften them up in a bath, or with some vaseline.
...And the side I thought was dead has sent up a new curl...
Well good coz I was thinking that half of mine was dead too. Maybe there's hope for that side after all.
Nope, not yet. I looked at her bag this weekend and I think it's going to be a few days yet.
Hey Becky, you need to check out the website for that guy you told me about that was on Downunder Horsemanship. His name was Pete Ramey and he's got some really good related stuff on his website. It's really better than the NB website. It's more about barefoot trim and using boots, and I know you're not interested in that, but the trim part is really good.
http://www.hoofrehab.com
Go there and click on all the related links and print out that stuff too. It's really good! Thanks for telling me about him.
Mmmmmm, I wish I could go there about August.
It turns into "The Land of the Drippysweats" around here about that time.
I'm sure you remember it well! ;o)
Cool! I think you'll like 'em. I know I sure have. It's time for Bob to have a reset. From the looks of them, I think I should get at least 2 resets out of them, maybe more. We'll see I guess.
It was funny, I ran into a farrier this morning at the feed store that I'd used from time to time as a backup and we got to talking and I told him I was using NB shoes and he immediately set in to trashing them. We talked on about them a few minutes and it became apparent that he really knew nothing about them or what they were for, but was convinced that they were just a ripoff anyways, just because they weren't something he knew about. About that time his order was ready and he had to go and that was good because I could see that it was a pointless conversation. So I think it's great that your farrier is open-minded about new things.
Hey, thanks for the link.
I'm really hoping Chris is adept at putting these shoes on. From the little we talked I think he is.
I'm really looking forward to "feeling" the difference. Will I? It's been so long ago, that I wonder if it's my imagination, but it seems I remember that when I first got him and he was barefoot, he moved a lot smoother. The longer he was in shoes the more rough it became. Something about that beveled edge and the squarer toes just seems like it would make it a lot easier for them to move more fluidly. And if they are moving more fluidly it's going to be less stressful on their joints.
My goal it to keep this horse as healthy and sound as possible for as LONG as possible:). I'll do any kind of preventive thing I can.
Becky
Bob was actually be a little choppier right at first, until he figured out how to move again. But after that, he just seemed to get smoother and faster every time. Hopefully they'll have that effect for you. You'll have to let me know how they do.
Oh, be sure to take pictures of the feet from the bottom after he puts them on. I wanna see how well he does with the toes. Bob still has a ways to go before his feet will be in the right place as far as the toe goes, but I think that after 2 or 3 shoeings he should be set.
I had already planned on showing you a picture, and I want your honest opinion. If it looks like its a screwed up job, please tell me. At this point you are more knowledgeable about it then I am. If this doesn't go smooth, and it doesn't look right, I may impose on you and have you send me those DVD's. But if he gets it right, well then I won't think I need them. I appreciate the offer:)
Becky
I'm so glad you told me this. I always expect there to be instant improvement:)
Now I won't worry right off the bat.
Becky
I wear low cut lace up, riding boots. They go to my ankle. I wear low cut socks with them. I usually wear lose sweat pants with no elastic. My trainer said she used to do the same and it's the elastic of the socks below the area causing it. I went out today in a pair of my husbands socks. How do men wear those things? I pulled them off and rode without socks. I'm waiting to see what happens. It doesn't look any more red so that's good. I don't understand why it's inner on one and outer on the other though. I thought it might be contact the the fly spray. If the socks aren't the cause, I'll see what happens in shorts.
3551 to all. I'm tired.
I can get Sarah Lee to "turn" when she's going with her left side to the fence (whatever that's called) The other way.... Forgetabout it. She turns west, then east and looks at me like "I forgot" I just walked her, holding her halter and saying turn and turning her.
I will never forget working in my flower bed in Alabama one day with the radio on. It was 94' with 90% humidity. I could see water droplets in the air, I swear :)
Horses are like people in that they are right handed (hoofed) or left handed. They move naturally much better one way than the other and have to be taught to move the other way - sometimes they really dislike it. Generally to begin with, a horse will pick up one lead much better than the other.
I read today that is was 100' in Dallas today. Somehow, it just doesn't seem right that Texas has my warm weather and I have snow :) Who did you guys pay off?
My scalp is red where I part my hair. I can put up with the heat though, now that I have more day light.
Yeah we have some work to do but I thought it was really smart of her to start catching on after I showed her a few times.
My computer is on the fritz, ladies. I'm on hubby's computer this morning but I wanted to tell ya'll that Tuffy is getting his shoes put back on today, at the racetrack vet. That way if anything goes wrong, the vets are there and can see what the problem is. I think Tuffy is as good as he's gonna get so it's time. We're going first thing this morning, wish us luck....
Good thing I made the appointment early, supposed to be 101 here today.
