The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

They are pretty nasty critters and very distructive. I'm sorry to hear they are up there.

Sarah Lee was a BRAT today.

What was she doing? Do think maybe the wind was bothering her too, or is she maybe coming into season?

Yes and yes. Riding wasn't what was on her mind today. She wanted to rush to the barn. I was brushing her in the barn. I touched her flank and she shoved me over. I slapped her good. I went to put her briddle on. She locked her jaw. So I took her back to the round pen and briddled her there. She was just showing off for the stallion trying to kick his door down. I was sitting in a chair waiting my turn and she kind of walked up and raised her front leg like she wanted to knock my chair over. Back to the round pen. When we finally ride she acts like she can hardly walk and I had to keep kicking her to get her to trot and she's tripping all over the place. I guess I wore her out in the round pen.

Good news though. I found my rythmn. I know how to sit her trot comfortably now.

Uh huh. It was like "you will trot. I like this"

Seriously though, she acted tired and cranky. I didn't make her do a lot in the round pen but she seemed to be dragging even at the beginning. When her front leg buckled we stopped. I was concerned about her stumbling but she's not lame and I bathed her and checked her all over including her feet and no "ouches" except she didn't like me touching her left flank. The only thing I noticed out of the ordinary was that she had a lot of dried mud on 3 hoofs. The left back foot clean. I'm going to see how she does tomorrow without lunging and I may need to get the ferrier back out if she still stumbles.

It may be she was just having an off day, not paying attention but it's a good idea to check her if she's not better tomorrow. And if she's in season she might be a little irritable.

Yeah that's what my trainer said. She wasn't worried. She said Sarah Lee wasn't wanting to work and not picking her feet up and dragging them. She said I was almost ready for my spurs and that my horse needed them today. I was afraid this was going to happen though. Last week was almost magical. I'm just greedy, I guess:')

Horses have off days just like people. Even Prez will go out and stumble down the trail, daydreaming I guess.

Well, she was doing fine running and kicking across the pasture when I turned her out.

Good Morning and Happy Easter!

It was a beautiful day yesterday. I mowed the yard then daughter and I went for a ride. She rode Cricket (the pony) and I rode Jody. We were only out for about an hour. The woods behind the house were under water for the most part. The beavers have made a dam along the bike trail and I think the flooding is moving this way. Sure felt good to be out and on a horse, on such a nice day.

Congrats on the placing. Too bad it was such a nasty day. Funny how horses act up in the wind like that. Tuffy is really coming along nicely. Any endurance rides coming up soon?

Happy Easter to you too:)

I was going to ride today, but may not get too. Harleys shoes are clanking. 12 days early:(. I'm going to get hold of my farrier this evening, Easter or not. In one sense I'm not to upset over this, because I'm very anxious to get the NB shoes put on him. BUT,,,,1. I don't want to miss any days riding, 2. 12 days early on a 6 week schecule....That means these shoes only stayed on less then 5 weeks.

I'm wondering if it isn't from the frogleg shoes. Just all that hanging out the back, doesn't work for trail riding???

Becky

Morning. I'm boiling eggs. I have a bunch of the plastic ones but they are just too easy, I guess:') What do you mean about flooding though?. Are you at risk?

Good morning and happy easter everyone :~D

Rain here today, at the moment anyway. Rained most of yesterday too. Although we had hoped to have a shakedown ride this weekend here at home, I don't mind that the seed in the yard, and the grass in the pasture, is getting all this rain.

I had forgotten he was still in those frogleg shoes.

I'm interested in the NB shoes too, both for Harley and for Bay. Not sure if my farrier is into them, but I'm gonna ask next week.
