This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Long time no hear from
One word; HOMEWORK
Still taking my lessons and English cantering now
My horse friend has fallen in love with this breed, Gypsy Vanner
and I admit its looks are stunning
Has anyone had any experience with this breed?
I do know that they come in different colors, are small, fairly rare and EXPENSIVE
I've only seen them in pictures... they are magnificent creatures. :~D
Ooooo weeeee my husband bought me something special today! Ever since seeing the movie "Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken" I've always wanted the book it was based on, called "A Girl and Five Brave Horses." It's out of print but I've found it on ebay or amazon used books at outrageous prices that I wouldn't pay. My husband just walked in the door with it. It's an old library book, in good condition and I can't wait to get started! Gotta get those kids to bed early tonight....
OHHHHHHHHH! I want one of those
I haven't read it. I did buy me a smut book while I was in Austin though:') Mine locked his keys in his truck and I had to go back out. He offered to take me out to dinner but I could tell he was tired and I said no. I'm being real nice to him today for some reason. He's almost 5 years older than me and I even told him today that he could retire first if he wanted.
I am going to vist :>)
There are some beautiful pictures on their site and some videos too
Here's is one of their babies
Isn't he/she adorable?
Has to be a she. Look at those eyelashes:')
They look like something out of a fairy tale. Stick a horn on this stallion's forehead and you've got yourself a unicorn. :-D
I never really took to the notion that unicorns were thin-legged, skinny things.
LOL your right!
A horse like that would burn up down here.
Wouldn't it be awesome to have a horse farm of different kinds of horses?
Evidently not just a draft horse,
Members of this breed often excel in the following disciplines:
Driving
Jumping
Dressage
Gypsy Vanners are prized for their gentle dispositions.
It's hard to tell from the pics but are they smaller horses?
I'd love to have 2 of each if I could. But I'd never have the time to ride them all!
That's very true. If you can find a way to get it to pay for itself, you're in business!
Cindy's Ark :')
Has a nice ring to it, that's for sure. :-)
Under 14 Hands: Mini Vanner
14 Hands to 15.2 Hands: Classic Vanner
15.2 Hands and Up: Grand Vanner
DNA testing is a requirement for all horses applying for permanent registry into the Gypsy Vanner Society of North America.
No but it would still be fun trying!
