I started getting excited to start riding again too, seeing Bay looking strong helped a lot, and all the talk of conditioning him up for another season got me thinking I should get started... not today, but probably every day I can from here on out. I was afraid he was gonna be in some kind of recovery period, but he isn't.
I need to do a couple things... I want to get on Bay here at home and do some walking big loops around the pasture, nice and easy, to get him back in some kind of working shape before taking him on a trail ride. With the mud up in the woods early in the season, the trails themselves can be a lot of work and he should be prepared slowly.
I also need to lunge Cyn and work on some manners and be sure her attitude is in the right place before ecurbh gets her under saddle. ecurbh just doesn't really have time to do that during the week. I think she's fine, she always is, but she has her snotty side ;~D
So both those tasks are pretty boring, but they need done. Might start tomorrow.
I know what you mean. I didn't had trouble getting started doing that lunging I did. Once I got started tho, I enjoyed it.
But nothing beats riding, especially when they're really working good, like he has the last two rides.

I'm really glad Bay is good to go too:)

I want you to see him strong when you come, not old and retired :~D
I'm from that area. Rice farmers. It's one of Texas' nicest little secrets:')
Tuffy can a horse that far gone, really recover?
#4 reminded me of that vet telling me I could give Okie an ice cube suppository:')
Probably not completely but with lots of time and care, he could feel and look a whole lot better.
Who is he?
Rusty wasn't nearly as bad as that horse, but even so, he had major problems even when he was brought back and "looked" fit. I'll never buy another one that I looks like that. Very heartbreaking.

With that much muscle wasting it just has to affect their bones, wouldn't you think?
Well, I never had any bone problems, but I'd think it would affect them. I know when you're bringing one back from condition like that they can colic easy, develop ulcers, I think it affects muscles, and then of course, Rusty had problems sweating. He was hard to keep weight on him even when he was where he should be. He took alot more feed then a horse his size should have.

Glad you are here. I wanted to ask you something. I'm awfully sore and achy today. Yesterday was my longest and hardest working riding lesson I've had but the ride was different. I don't know how to explain but I was feeling no pain or bounces and I could feel my horse was on a high too. No worries. My knees usually start getting trembly and I know when the lesson over. Not yesterday. The entire lesson was trotting and it was like I didn't even need to cue the horse and that she was going where I wanted before I even told her. Even my trainer noticed and told me it was the best she had seen me ride. I'm anxious to get back on and see if it happens again. Ever felt like that?
Relly good info on cooling horses and very true - especially at the poll and crest. Oh, and #10, if you're riding an appy, he's likely to drink the beer :)
UUMMMM, not sure I know what you mean.
Have I ever been sore and achy after a ride?? Yeah, just about every time:) Goes with getting old I think.
Have I ever been anxious to get back on. Every day this week:)
Sounds like you had a good ride:) Keep up the good work.
You know just about everyone I know has trouble with their knees when they ride. My daughter, DIL, the young girl I rode with Sat. Celia, Julia, I don't know why. That is ONE thing I've never had trouble with. It's usually my hips, back inner thighs...well everything but my knees:). And I don't mean this as a joke. Riding will make you sore. I don't think there's any getting away from it.

LOL:)

Really glad to hear Bay's okay :)
Bob tells everyone he's teaching to riding - one day it will click :) and I think that must be true. It's hard to remember back that far for me, but I've watched the people taking lessons and suddenly, it will all come together.
It's the best feeling ever:)
Glad you're there:)
