This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Thanks, I watch the weather channel and the internet when bad storms are forecast.
You two just keep a close watch on those volcanos.
Volcanos are a walk in the park, unless you're downstream or downwind ;~D
Her first breeding date was 340 days from this Friday and her last breeding date was 340 days from next Friday, so she could go anywhere in that range, or even longer, but she sure does look ready to blow right now! Truly looks about the same, but not QUITE as big because she's longer bodied. Truly is due the first week or so of May.
Ouch!! I still have plans to visit the Gulf coast soon before hot weather gets here. My relative says bodies are still being found there.
Well, I hope this year's saddle club babies all arrive safe and healthy! I spose Duchess has some about to pop too!
We'll, we aren't near downstream or downwind, so I don't have much to fear from volcanos.
Another hurricane season is approaching and I don't think anyone in the gulf is looking forward to another one.
I think this last one got on a lot of people's last nerve and they moved further inland. I can't say as I blame them.
14.2 or about. She is a registered QH and quarter pony. Just the right size for you. Nice pony, 11 years old, but does crib. She came from the same place we got Patches, the foundered mini. We just hate to send her back there, if we don't sell her. The man wants a thousand for her.
I don't blame them either. I wouldn't invest a dollar into rebuilding in the coastal lowlands down there.
The only good thing I know of about hurricanes is that they usually bring rain during the driest part of summer. Other than that they are dangerous.
I guess the coastal lifestyle is worth it to some people, but I ain't one of 'em. I'll visit and go home! We get it bad enough all the way up here when one comes in just right and we live about 8 hours from the Gulf, so I have no desire to experience "one up close and personal".
Very well. Biscuit was at an indoor arena for about 6 weeks, after she left the trainers. Daughter had been going over there to ride her inside and get her worked. Just a lot of wet saddle blankets now, to get the experience
Have a great ride today!
I just can't imagine watching those whole rows of them stacked up out in the Atlantic all summer, if any one of them might come your way. The stress is almost like sitting in a room with a guy shooting a gun in random directions, he misses you most of the time, but it still keeps you on alert all the time!
I got to ride the newest saddle this weekend, and I think it's going on ebay. We rode about 5 hours and when I pulled it off, Bob had dry spots on either side of his withers. Plus, when I got him home and gave him a bath, he was VERY touchy over his loins. So it don't look very encouraging. I'll check him out again today to see if he's still ouchy, but it looks like I'm going to have to bite the bullet and buy another Ortho Flex, even if I just get a used one. I've NEVER had a sore back with the one I have.
This latest saddle is not the floating saddle, right? How'd that one work?
No, this one was a conventional tree similar to a Tucker Endurance saddle. The Auto Adjust saddle seemed to fit the horses fine but it was too big for me, so I never really got to give it a good try. I just felt like I was all over the place in it. I'm hoping my friend will buy it, otherwise it's going back on ebay too. Such fun!
So, are all the recent saddles being rejected then?
Yep, more or less. I guess I'm spoiled by the one I have.
Well, I guess it means if you find one thing that works really well, stick with it!
I hate to pay 3 times what I paid for these for an Ortho Flex, but if the other ones don't fit, they aren't worth a dime.
