This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
I remember doing that too in high school, and I graduated about 12 years ago. We had one computer in the room, though. We don't even need them for these classes, but the college gave them to us and they are ours when we graduate. I thought that was a very bad idea, because it's too much of a distraction. I am still the only one here besides the instructor, and we are 15 minutes into class
It would be a good thing to have on hand for some kind of emergency or unforeseen circumstance (excessive heat or something) but I don't think Bay would need it on normal trail rides.
Now - that's just my opinion, lots of people use them.
But it might be good to have if I'm out there and he has a hard day and looks stressed... or... We come upon someone else on trail that's in trouble. Ever since we came upon that horse that was all 'tied up' on trail, and saw how stuck they really were until they got some help, I've wanted to carry some Bute paste. I've got to get some, all I've got is the tabs I have to mash up and mix to get them in the horse.
Electrolytes, is just what that tied up horse needed.

Hair, have a good time on your weekend get-a-way, (I might just do the same this weekend). While watching "House Hunters" last night, a retired couple bought a floating house in Seattle. It was pretty cool, and that reminded me of that movie, Sleepless in Seattle
Speaking of retiring, I broke the news to the boss this morning, that I was done June 1st. I was going to take off the month of May for vacation (get 4 weeks), but he talked me into working in May and taking June off.
Yes, I used to use a blanket under the pad, because it was a hair pad. Then one on top of the pad. Worked well for me, you mileage may vary....
Have a great weekend everyone!
Well, we're off! Back sometime Saturday night probably!
Rosie, we decided to leave the blankets OFF, since it's going to be so warm today and mild - mid forties - tonight. It's supposed to rain Saturday but it'll be warm, they'll be fine without.
Be sure to ask these folks if you think there's something unsure about the horses. If in doubt, make sure they have water and feed more hay - they can't OD on that :~D
Have a good time:)
I'm riding my horse today, and not worrying about a thing. Like Charlie asked yesterday, when was the last time I "enjoyed" riding, well, it's going to be today:)

Hey, do you know if the burn ban has been lifted?
Becky
Good morning! Did you get any rain at all? That storm yesterday came right up 151st from Mounds, it appeared to me. Sirens went off in town.
No it hasn't...

Yes I have and they're really funny looking, but I'm sure they work. They look like somebody painted the cat's toenails. I just use toenail scissors on my cats claws every couple of weeks and that works out really well.
*chuckle* Yeah, they come in dog sizes too for dogs that won't quit scratching doors and floors. We put a set on a Chihuahua a couple months back, fire engine red. Matched her 'No, No, Bad Dog' red bandanna and red rhinestone collar. She was hilarious. Her owner thought she looked like a prostitute and couldn't stop laughing.
Well I'm glad! Riding should be about fun and relaxation. Enjoy!
Today we're getting the storms y'all had yesterday. It's really kinda scary. All the TV weather guys are saying that they haven't seen this kinda weather pattern around here in 20 or 30 years, since we had the super storm outbreak in '74. Half of north Alabama got blown away in that one. They're supposed to start rolling in sometime after noon and continue on until around midnight. It's gonna be a long night I think. :o[
How do ya get them to stay on? Do they glue or something?
No, we didn't get a drop of rain here at the house yesterday.
Funny thing, I was at 151 and Mem. picking up a pizza when the sirens went off. I watched the weather reports on the TV at the pizza place, and was looking at the sky outside, and IMO, Bixby once again tends to sound those alarms way to quick. They're crying wolf too often and people aren't going to be paying attention anymore if they don't stop doing that.
It was raining for heavens sake!!!!
When I got home Mack said the sirens sounded here to and the sun was shining...
What a bunch of idiots:), JMO, tho.
Thanks for the info on the burn ban. I've got a pile of downed trees I want to burn, and would like to get it done before I plant my seed, but I guess it will have to wait.
Becky
Yeah, 'special' glue. Pretty much like superglue.
Just trim the nail, put a little glue in the cap and slide it over the nail.
Heh! I can see where that could be a dicey operation with some kitties. You could end up with a cat glued to your arm. ;o)
*ROFL* Yeah, there are some cats where soft paws are not a viable option. :) Although, once you have the first set on, you only have to replace onesie, twosie as they grow off. Takes about 4-6 weeks to completely change caps.
Yeah, it ain't looking good around here. They're saying that the last time the forcast looked this bad was when we got the F5 tornadoes. 4 inch hail don't sound very good either. It's hard to know what to do about the horses. If you lock them up, the barn could blow down on on them. If you leave them out, they could get beat to death by hail stones. I hate weather like this! It's not doing anything out there right now, but it's supposed to start around 3 or 4. I'm leaving work early to go get them all fed and haltered with my name and phone number on them, just in case the fence goes. Then I'll round up the cat carrier, stuff all the cats inside and go hunker down in the in-law's basement for the night. Everybody keep us in your prayers!
