The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

That's how Belle was, so I've become conditioned to expect it from every horse:). But I'm starting to catch on that stuff like that might slow Harley down for a minute but he'll do it without blowing up.

I wish you got this station, this is really very interesting and gives me ideas on what to work on:). I want to try the circles. The first circle is suppose to be a nice slow smooth lope, the second one a lot faster, then rate the horse back to a slow one again, but don't let them break to a trot, drift out of the circle, then at the end make a nice stop. This young one had the most beautiful stop on his rear end. The rider is the one training him and he is doing an excellent job.

I was just remembering when Bob told a story about when the Backcountry Horseman Chapter was set to ride in our town's 4th of July parade. Bob spent all week desensitizing his horse at the time, a paint, to flapping and waving American flags, and felt ready to go... it's a small parade... How bad can it be?

Well, the thing he didn't predict would be a big issue was the marching bands. He said he was just trying to get his horse tacked up and people walking by with drums and trombones and tubas wigged his horse out... he walked him around, but Bo wouldn't turn his back on them. They were big MONSTERS with bizarre shapes that made a scary noise!

Bad part was, the band was supposed to follow the horses. When they lined up to start out, Bo turned around backwards and it was clear he intended to walk the whole parade backwards ;~D Bob decided he didn't want to risk havin' a wreck in the middle of a parade and pulled him.

I wish I got that channel too. We don't ever get good horse programs.

Celia took her horse Stromy one time to a playday. He'd NEVER done the barrels, flags, poles. She had only done CTR's for about 5 years on him.

She won every event, and looked great doing them. IMO that just shows you don't really need all that arena work. You just need a horse that listens and does what your asking no matter what.

LOL. Smart move, IMO.

One time during the Green Corn Parade here in Bixby that I was riding in, they were going to put the dam fire truck right behind the horses. And of course the fire truck is always tooting it's siren. The parade organizers got so many complaints from the horse people they changed the line up. I had pretty much decided to pull, I was on an Arab, but we made it fine.

The narrator is Craig Cameron, owner of the Double Horn ranch where that race is taking place. He does comes across as kind of dorky, doesn't he? Seems like a nice fella, though.

The second guy was impressive on that young horse. I think Craig said he worked on the 6666's ranch.

The guy was smart to pull out. A panicky horse on pavement can get more people than just the rider hurt.

Supposedly from the sales pitch, Cyn's been in a parade... and I can see that. The normal things that spook horses don't bother her at all.

Bay was at the parade too with the BCH chapter, but I don't remember it being a part of the story that Bay was an issue. I still don't think I'd take him.

We have a kids "Pet Parade" in town where kids dress up and bring pets, and one year we talked seriously about entering and leading Bay through with Tiff's kid on him. They didn't have horses then. The theme was "space age pets" and we thought we could spray him with silver glitter and wrap his bridle in tinfoil and maybe make little antennaes for him but the more I thought about it, the less I wanted Bay to be in a big crowd surrounded by kids looking like aliens in tinfoil costumes. It would have been a bad scene....

Cyn... maybe :~D

Sorry doll... Can you go ride Rocky?

Or is it just too cold and nasty out? It is here... I fed the horses inside this morning.

Ooooo Cool! Snow! But I'm glad it's you and not me. My enthusiasm for snow starts melting as soon as the first leaves start popping out.

I saw the commercial for Cowboy Race the other day, but I forgot about it. I'm glad you reminded me so I can set it to record. It looked like a lot of fun.

My husband wouldn't watch one second of it.

LOL!!! Mine either, given the fact that he hates reality shows in general, but a reality show about HORSES, well, that's the whammy. But when he saw the commercial he had to laugh and say "Well, we know you'll be watching THAT one!".

Oh I could, it's warming up and the snow is all gone, but it' wet drippy, muddy, and he's barefoot, and I don't like riding him:)

LOL!!! Whose sick joke was that? One of the parade organizers must've had it in for somebody in one of the bands. Can you imagine what those pretty white band shoes probably looked like after walking in all that horse crap? They always put the horses at the end of the parade around here.

I covered my fern, and it's fine. I just checked the few seedling that had come up, they seem fine so far. So I think everything will be fine, tonight it's actually suppose to be colder, 25, but then it will warm up, and I'd almost bet we're done with winter then.

The snow is almost gone now, it's the cold, I thought it was warming up, and went outside, nah, it's still pretty chilly because it's so damp out there. But I'm glad for the damp we needed it.
