The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I did see that you were getting rain on the national map... Good for you... can you go toss your seed out on the pasture now? Get it while the gettin's good?

Well, despite the uncertain forecast, I opted for blankets off and breakfast out in the pasture... There's not a cloud in the sky now, watch it make a fool of me :~D

No sign of Woody yet this morning.... No real change in the tree since last night.

Oh dear. lol. I think I prefer get your ass over here vs telling the little darlins to go run around, trip people, and see what you can get in to:') I worry about me. Kids in public are being to annoy me. I'm turning into the old lady that used to frown at me and mine. I guess I need to work on that

I have a bobcat:)

I think I need to hold off on the seed to April. We still have some barely below freezing nights forecast for next week. The guy at the feed store said that the days can be warm enough for the seed to germinate and sprout, then if we get a freeze it kills it and I'd have to reseed. I definitely do not want to have to buy seed twice:). I'll just have to hope for some rain in April.

Woody:) Hehheh.

I hope he comes back. Can you move the truck for awhile till he is done with the tree in case it falls. I don't think he will make it fall, but he could weaken it so that wind could.

I need a friend with a Bobcat that lives closer!
Can ya bring the Bobcat with you on your trip?

Yeah - we're at the same stage with seeding here... still a little too cold at night. Seed won't really germinate till it's staying above 50 at night.

Trying to figure out what to do about Woody and his tree. The thing is it's likely to get hung up in the surrounding trees and fall in an unpredicatable direction. Even if I move the truck, the horse trailer and the house are still in it's range. I sent the pics to dad and he thinks we can cut it and push it towards the back... we'd have to take down the back fence temporarily to do that.

Foxglove is toxic to horses, so I'd just make sure it isn't where they could reach it.

We don't use bad language around our kids but what's really sad is that the child wasn't doing anything abnormal, just watching the rides.

I lucked out with insurance I think. My husband is ex-military so I'm signed up with Tri-care. Depending on how expensive it is though, I think I'll try for individual health care also until I'm eligible for Medicare. I'm sure the COBRA payments for staying with my current insurance would be outrageous.

It may be that as a small business owner you will be eligible for a group policy coverage along with other small business owners. I'll have to check on this, seems like there is something like that available in Nevada.

I go the opposite sometimes with kids... I think they ought to be allowed to run outside and I've been around parents whose first instinct is to not let them do ~anything~. And the kids just NEED to run.

Not so much at an amusement park where there's crowds, but at a regular park, or here, or at the beach. When a kid is at the beach house, I hate to hear parents that are friends saying "no - stay away from the water you'll get your shoes all wet!" IMHO, and I've said so, any parent who brings a kid to the beach in clothes or shoes they can't get wet in made a mistake. I say "They're beach shoes now!"

Oh, well that is a problem;\

I was sitting here and noticed out the window that Harley and Rocky were running and bucking and rearing. Of course when I went out to get a picture they both ran into their stalls and turned and stood watching me. Silly things., so I just snapped a picture of the fountain where I have it set for now anyway:) How it looks coming into the gate.

The foxglove will be inside the garden fence. No way the horses can get to it, but thanks for the tip. I'll know not to ever put it out front.

I am so glad you're geting rain, hope you get lots of it :)

Can you put the extension cord inside an old hose or some conduit or pcv pipe? That would hide it a little and you can paint any that has to be against the house the same color as the house.

I'm not sure they'd ~want~ to eat it, but you never know...

I love the fountain :~D Someday I'll have a watergarden with a fountain like that. I love little kid fountains.

I warn everyone that comes out here to NOT put their kids in good clothes. No matter what, they are going to get dirty. My brother use to get upset when his boys came out here and then came home with muddy shoes....I just reciprocated by being upset that they let mine play in the street:). I guess it's just what you get use to dealing with. We finally reached an understanding:) Dirty shoes, clothes, faces and hands are not a problem for me, heck, it washes off.

Well, I know how you feel about WalMart, but...I was looking at fountains last night on the internet, I couldn't believe the prices. so be sure to shop. I paid $50 for this one. There was one on the internet I saw that was only a few inches higher, a little boy leaning over to get a drink, $300.

I agree so much with that. I just posted something similar on another thread. Eddie has gone to Walmart to get the kids a pool. I want them outside playing. I'm talking about in public though. It's rude and dangerous. Parents let them just run around. My granddaughter used to be allowed to do that at Walmart when they came down here. I had a fit and put the fear of what could happen to her in them. They now keep her close and Granny has drills on what to do if someone trys to "steal" you. All my little ones have been taught that you don't run in front of people and give elderly and the blind more space. They have to know the difference between inside and outside play and the importance of staying close in public. I don't understand why some parents aren't teaching this anymore.
