The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I'll get some before tomorrow before the weather changes. That sure might be some added insurance for their survival:)

I wish I had a scanner. I have a picture of me when I was about 2 or 3. I'm adorable. Shirley Temple ringlets and all. I'm holding my pet . A big rooster. Evevidently someone gave him to me as a chick and I wagged him around like a cat. He got really big though and I find out now that they lied to me and cooked him. Who cooks a rooster?

Good morning all. Haven't found the horse I want, so far, to replace Miss Accident Prone. Will start looking maybe next week.

So dry here in Texas!! Planting flowers this morning and have got lawn sprinkler on so I can fool myself into thinking I live in the tropics.

I think that you can cook roosters. I know someone who wants to get rid of a bunch of roosters, but doesn't want to give them to someone who would want them for meat.

I learned the hard way that a bunch of roosters is too many roosters:')

Hi Beaker! As you can see I like to take fotos, sometimes they turn out well. Yes, I have been here a while, I love it. Here's a foto of an old wooden windmill derrick near my place. A cool thing happened --- we've had a drought yhere and I was out in the woods looking for a little redbud I remembered from last year. It hadn't bloomed. Finally found it --- a tiny sprig. It looked dead from the drought, not a leaf on it. So I carried gallons of water to it, and within an hour --- one hour! --- it had put out tiny sprigs of leaves and now four hours later, they are opening! You can see some little redbud blossoms in the windmill derrick.

Well, it's snowing on and off here again today and very cold. Seymour and I had a talk and he wanted his feet in dirt, but not cold dirt. Sooo - he's living in the house, next to the humidifier and a window in my living room. We'll re-negotiate this spring when things warm up a bit.

In the last picture, straight up from the 11 you can see the first green frond opening.

By the way, Hair - did I say thank you very much :)

That's a beautiful picture. What a wonderful way for the redbud to say thank you. I sure hope it can make it through the rest of the drought.

I will certainly keep it watered.

I use two plastic containers with a couple of holes poked in the bottom so that it drips slowly and soaks in.

I am carrying about six gallons a day to it.

I do that for one of my trees that is in the dog run. I can't keep a drip there because my dog delights in tearing them out. We tried hanging a hose in the branches to run down but she jumps up and snags it too. Gallon milk jugs full of water are no fun though and she leaves them alone.

I'm so glad you'll be able to keep it watered. It will be a beautiful tree.

Just left Walmart. I'll try to get my groceries early in the morning. When I started getting the urge to start elbowing and slapping people for not teaching their kids manners I figured it was time to go:')

I've changed my mind. I think you are right and the dog is completely deaf and only responding to vibrations. I'm gonna get the vet to look at her this week. Probably nothing he can do. I've started sign language with her but we aren't getting too far yet.

I feel that way every time I go into Walmart. :)

It may be that she still hears some tones, if he can check for that and you can figure out which ones, you can use them to call her, etc.

Well now I'm puzzled. She didn't pay too much attention to a pan dropped on tile but my son slammed a book on the counter and she startled. He also whistled near her ear and she turned toward him and came to him in the yard when he whistled. The book was a low tone and his whistle is very shrill. It may be his body language though because he has spent the most time with her over the years.
