This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
You're afraid of chickens because chickens are evil to the core.
I'm gonna go buy that movie, I haven't seen it and it sounds good. And I LOVE westerns.
Speaking of chickens. A gentleman on the radio mentioned about bird flu coming to America. It is just a matter of time before it gets here. He cautioned anyone who owned chickens. It would be so devastating to the poultry industry. His program was mostly on disaster survival and how everyone should be prepared. You should have a supply of water, food and the basic needs for at least 7 days.
Mornin'.
I'm hoping that the bird flu will go the way of SARS.
It was a big to-do at the time, but faded away. Now no one talks about SARS.
I "think" the fronds on it are starting to unroll, but because they are still brownish, I'm not sure if it is because they are growing or dead:)? I don't know if you can see them in the picture, what do you think?
Look straight up from the "11", is the most obvious one, the ones further up and to the left look like they have unrolled a little too, but it could all be my imagination too:)
Becky
They're not dead, they look just fine! They have that brown hair on them at first!
How much longer till your new saddle is ready?
Oh, OK thanks.
I looked at the forecast, looks like the temps may drop "just" below freezing a few nights next week (of course the forecast is subject to change, or be wrong:). do you think I should cover them if it does? I think up by the house it stays more protected, but I'd think they could still be fragile from the transplant.
Becky
Why are you afraid of chickens? LOL
It was just a week last Wed. He said three weeks. So I've still got awhile, and then I'd say to keep from being extremely disappointed I should plan on it being a week late too. I'll give them a week, after that I'll be in the shop everyday, all day, waiting:)
Becky
We're still getting some snow here and freezing temps, but yours are more awake than they would have been here, I think from the change and soaking them in water. Ours don't have visible new growth yet.
They're probably fairly protected by the house... If you wonder you can cover them with more leaves but it's really easy to break the new curls, so be careful :~)
It's suppose to be in the 80's the next few days, then drop down to more normal temps, 50's high, 30's low.
Becky
Funny!
Wow - what variable weather! Keep 'em wet! You have Miracle Grow or something? I sometimes pour that on them when they're uncurling... help them get as tall as they will.
