I hesitate to speculate. It was curious that the report didn't say hit by car or shot or something else. I suspect we may not know for awhile. I'll see what KFI has at the top of the hour.

The ABC report William posted above indicated he died inside of a residence. Therefore, probably not hit by a car, and probably not shot, but the latter certainly feasible, considering the location of death.

Santa Monica police say there is no sign of foul play in the death of Actor Chris Penn. The actor and brother of Sean Penn was found dead in a Santa Monica residence. This is from ABC.com in Los Angeles.
