WHOA! Talk about DREAM Jobs! WOO-HOO! That would definitely be a sweet job to have.
Being a military wife, mother and widow for a total of 30 years, I know what you mean. My oldest grandson is scheduled to go into the army in June, as soon as he graduates, and I hope he is able to meet someone like you when he gets to his permnanent station. It means a lot to the kids to know that someone cares about them.
WHOA! When are you leaving? This weekend? (I'm so excited for you!)
I have check lists galore. I even have a list of my lists.
LOL! Now you sound like me!! The bad thing is that I often misplace my Master List...
I figure then, if I've gotten along without "whatever" I probably didn't really need it anyway!

It appears the thread slows down due to the way FR's software is written; I am guessing that when something is posted, and/or perhaps read, the software searches for the end by finding the very beginning and running forward.
Think of it as looking up words in a dictionary if you have to start on the very first page and keep turning them, one at a time, until you reach the word you're looking for. You'll find "aardvark" quickly, but "zymurgy" will take a while.
Because most threads on FR only go a few hundred posts at most this isn't usually a problem, and the long threads are rare enough that it doesn't warrant the software programming tricks that can speed things up for the long threads.
We hit the Wall, once, at 65,534, but the second time, we got just a little past 30,000 and the thread took 45 minutes to load. That's when we decided to move it. So we do.
I think NicknamedBob or sionnsar (or both) have the previous threads marked, if you want to read a lot...we just come here to relax. :o]
