Their was only four people that knew jack was alive.Tony, michelle, palmer and chloe.How on earth would the russians know this or even frame him for their deaths.I don't think Chloe would have told spencer, thats just too easy. Now, on the otherhand, Derek, in his pursuit to find out who jack realy is to protect his mom, sends a fingerprint somehow to LE for identification. He gets nothing back from the cops but someone somewhere ( The Feds) has flagged anyone that searches for Jack's print.Now that the feds know jack is alive the ruskies somehow find out.

BTW, since the producers survived season 4's move to a more reality-based plot (where the terrorists were (gasp!)Muslims) I think this year the bad guys are Chechens.

No, you are looking at it wrong. Jack didn't need to be alive for their plan to work. They already have the doctored footage to plant in the surveillance camera. They kill Tony, Michelle, and Chloe, then kill Palmer and plant the footage. All of a sudden, CTU is searching for a guy they think is dead. Even if Jack really were dead, CTU would be searching high and low for him. It's just a plus that Bauer is alive.
