We love our iRiver H10, as well! Even better with the configurable
FM transmitter accessory. And, it even works with the XBOX 360 too.
But it sounds like I'm preaching to the choir. IMO, the iPod is highly overrated from a price:performance perspective; but it is sleek looking, like most Mac products. Looks ain't everything, though.

The iPod also works with the 360.
Looks may not be everything, but for the real target demographic of the iPod it is pretty close. Who wants something else when on a college campus you ain't anybody without an iPod?
