Poem to my husband

Come my love,
Let us intertwine our fingers and sit beside the fire
On this day to share love’s memory,
You and I,
And I will rest my head upon your shoulder,
And we will talk of this and that,
And think of how good it is,
Being with each other.

Come my love,
You with the gentle heart and soft voice,
Who has taught me so much about the reality of love -.
The hot, entrancing passion of falling in love,
The everyday trimming wisteria bushes in the spring,
Me baking bread, just to surprise you,
You bringing home a rose, unexpected,
Sharing doing the dishes,
Folding the clothes,
Knitting socks,
Waiting with you at the doctors,
Buying tools to finish a project.

Love is waking up in the middle of the night to find you a heating pad,
Love is waking up from a post surgery sleep to find you there with soup bowl in hand, ready to feed me,
Love is waking up and feeling your hand on my thigh tracing lazy circles,
Love is waking up to the alarm to get you to work on time.

So many things braided together make up our love -
Two lived pledged together
Interwoven into one,
In commitment
In care.
In trust.
