Dunno what was worse about that 4th-down play -
- Norv Turner's choice to try to sneak Kerry Collins up the same middle that he couldn't cram Zack Crockett through 3 straight times, burning timeout #2 to decide (timeout #1 was burned, IIRC, after 2nd down) and burning timeout #3 on a futile challenge, or...
- the ESPN crew's cheerleading for the 4th and goal play, bleating out that the Raiders shouldn't leave the 7 off the board when they needed 10 to win, and blindly using the worst camera possible (the right sideline) to try to salvage their idiocy and claim that the play should be overturned (the only problem is, that never showed the ball, and the one from the left sideline clearly showed the ball short all the way).
In that situation, you take the 3, get the ball back, and go for the TD. Unlike hockey, that gun doesn't go off until the ball is down, and you can easily extend the game an extra 10 seconds on a play.
Don't get me wrong, I had the Giants -8, so I'm happy that Norv Turner's a complete idiot. That he is one unfortunately just made the Packers vs Jets tiebreaker (Strengths of Schedule) that much harder for the Packers to win the higher draft choice.
