Mayor: Second City would welcome second NFL team Associated Press click this

CHICAGO -- Mayor Richard Daley believes getting a second NFL franchise could enhance the city's chances of a successful bid for the 2016 Olympics.

Daley says bringing another football team to Chicago would make it more feasible to build a domed stadium with a capacity of at least 80,000. That would be a major component of the city's Olympics bid.

The renovated Soldier Field, home of the Chicago Bears, seats just 61,500.

The mayor said Thursday that a new stadium would have to be used after the Olympics and that a second NFL team would be a desirable tenant.

"This is a great city, a great sports town," Daley said. "If it can handle two baseball teams, it can easily handle two football teams."

Daley said he hasn't approached the NFL about a second franchise.

The IOC chooses the 2016 Olympic City in 2009. Daley plans to appoint a committee soon to determine what facilities and finances are needed to make Chicago a serious bidder.

Bringing another baseball team to Chicago is more feasible than this idea.

Bringing another baseball team to Chicago is more feasible than this idea.

Not as long as Bud Selig's running things in baseball. He and puppetmaster Jerry Reinsdorf (owner of the White Sox) won't ever let that happen. Do remember that he tried to "contract" the Twins so that the folks in Eau Claire would become Brewer fans by default.

I know it would never happen...it's still more likely than a second NFL team coming to Chicago.

Have you seen "Miracle"?

No, I haven't. I wanted to see it when it came out and then forgot all about it since.

"This is a great city, a great sports town," Daley said. "If it can handle two baseball teams, it can easily handle two football teams."

But it can't. Does he realize how long it took one to get a championship? And that was the wrong one!

First, LA will get one before Chicago gets a second-rate team.

Second, nobody wants the Olympics except the mayor that gets the bid. Don't do it.

This has absolutely nothing to do with football. It has everything to do with diverting the headlines from the cronyism in his administration. People and the press can't keep the eye on the ball. Daley has an entire file of possible topics to divert attention. "Hmmmmm......let's suggest a new stadium for the Olympics.....a second football team, yeah ......that's it. The Press will love it."

Remember....everything about Daley is political. This has nothing, absolutely nothing about sports.

Has he called Tom Benson?

Well, if any city could support a second NFL team, it would be Chicago. Why not?

NFC West could be a good fit...back to where they used to be.

Go Seahawks! ;-)

Chicago would never get a second franchise while LA has none.
