I have been looking for this information in other press with no luck. In fact Yahoo movies have no photos or discussion of Narnia on the front page of their movie coverage but every other movie in the charts is there.

Sorry the cut and paste didn't format very well. It basically says Narnia is the number one film and Kong has dropped to number two.

Bill O'Reilly brought this up recently and the liberal on the show said Narnia was doing so well only because it was a family movie.

The liberal was defending Brokeback Mountain, using the argument that if BM had opened in more theaters it would've done really well. She based this assertion on the fact that BM only showed in about 100 theaters nation wide. Her faulty reasoning assumes that more people would've gone if it had shown in more theaters, and doesn't account for how many people went to the movie and left after it became apparent that it wasn't a cowboy movie.

(And don't knock the people who don't pay attention to movies. A lot of people go to the movies with the intent of watching a movie, any movie, without knowing much about the movies that are playing.)

Well, King Kong is a great movie. I haven't seen Narnia yet but I plan to do it. I wish both movies box office success.

Narnia was astounding. Predictable, even for those who haven't read the books, but flawless in every way. I haven't seen Kong yet, but knowing Jackson, it's probably well-executed and almost-too-long. =)

How often to people talk about Box Office other than the weekend? Totals during the week aren't talked about period, the press is on weekend box office, sometimes five day if a big movie opens on Weds. If Narnia outearns King Kong this weekend, we will hear about it just like we hear about the weekend box office returns every weekend.

Don't be suprised that the press would ignore this. They ignored Passion as well but the numbers didn't lie.

This will be a huge story in Hollywood. It is SHOCKING that Narnia is surpassing Kong at this 'early' date. Unfathomable to any prognosticators or movie buffs... but not to many Freepers, who predicted such an outcome. I was certainly not one of them.

Having seen Kong, the more frustrating it is to me (as a big Peter Jackson fan) thinking about the film's run time. It simply ruins what should have been a masterpiece.

Every single segment and scene goes on too long. Loving closeups of a silent Naomi Watts go on FOREVER. When they arrive on Skull Island, Jackson shows you skeletons. And more skeletons. After some other scenes, he starts showing you more skeletons again.

The ending atop the Empire State Building was spectacular, but typical of the movie. Jackson isn't content to move in close to the biplanes' details once or twice, but seemingly 20 times. And if there is a camera angle not used in Naomi's simple climb up a ladder, it hasn't been invented yet.

By the end, at 3 hours 17 minutes, you're begging for Kong to die so you can go pee (judging by the rush to the bathrooms, I wasn't the only one).

A real shame. It should have been a classic... at 2 hours 15 minutes, with all it's brilliance and wonder intact. People just cannot enjoyably sit captive for such a long time without an intermission, and I hope Jackson learns his lesson.

That's the word of mouth, and it's hurting Kong's box office. Here's hoping the special edition on DVD has an hour's LESS footage. Or someone with ProTools does a bootleg version at the proper artistic length.

But good for Narnia, which I enjoyed, and conservatives beating Hollywood at their own game once again.

I plan on seeing one way or another, but so far I've told my 11 and 8 years kids 'no', you can't see it. Sounds too intense for them, plus they'd have to sit through 3 hours of it if they do indeed get too scared.

In estimates from the same source, Kong beat Narnia by a mere $40,000 across the entire nation on Friday. Over the period of their releases, Kong has earned ~$95 million over 10 days, Narnia has earned ~$141 million over a period of 15 days. As mentioned, Kong is enjoying slightly more favorable press reviews and hands-down all available publicity over Narnia, yet they are averaging $9.5 million a day in sales after 10 days while Narnia is doing just as well ($9.4 million a day) after 15 days. Also, Nanria is set to turn a profit soon, while Kong is only half way to covering it's production.

Basically, Narnia's "legs" are stronger than Kong's. I believe word-of-mouth is sustaining Narnia while simultaneously undercutting Kong's media blitz. If folks are like me, they are telling friends that "Narnia was better than I thought or hoped it would be. Kong is good, but dnot equal to the hype."
