I always thought the same thing. I now have a somewhat different perspective. Gimme mentality plus greedy power grabbers plus no moral grounding plus ignorance and apathy plus public "education" plus voter fraud plus limited to zero accountability equals modern liberalism. I'm sure I left out a few factors, but you get the idea.
Personally, I don't see how anyone with a functioning brain and even a modest amount of awareness could take any liberal blowhard politician or mouthpiece seriously. They should be spanked soundly and removed from polite company until they learn how to behave properly, but then, we can't even do that with kids any more without catching flack for it.
I read a good article this morning that nailed liberalism quite accurately:

yet somehow liberals keep getting elected or phony republicans!
But the heart of the communities are conservative and also the working stiffs, the producers,
on the other hand laid back crowd have time and relief to engage in re-arranging the furniture!
Today on our NYC TV station on community affairs like city planning etc.
A blue collard worker, a lone voice in the group voice was expressing his displeasure in the fact he is a tax payer,
but the illgals are taking jobs from the tax payers
as the elected officals seek to make the illgals right protected,
but he the blue callar work pay the salary of the elected offical while the illgals send his money back to his homeland!

We have the ID system to insist those voting qualify...now the politicans are not going to make voters lawful??
May be if one is on the dole and non tax payer they can't vote!
Conflict of interest?
Some how it could be worked out to make sure the workers and producers are represented!
Than human parasites/pimps like Ted Kennedy, Harry Reid, and Howard Dean, Clintons etc will have hard time getting elected!
