Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge.
Building a pipeline actually helped the caribou elsewhere in Alaska due to the fact that oil is pumped through the line with a nice temperature to it.
Caribou found that they could keep warm by the pipeline, and that there was stuff growing there due to the relative warmth.
