Regarding dog saliva....when I was a little girl (growing up on a ranch), all skinned knees and elbows were treated by "let the dog lick it" then swab it with the "red" cow medicine - whatever that was :-) Must have been some kind of healing properties there - no scars!

I am sitting here remembering other home health care... bad cuts? mud dobber mud and cob webs. A boil? rancid bacon did the trick.

Anybody else remember tratments? Or are these remedies only performed in the south....:-)

I remember:

My Mom tying strings around warts to get them to drop off.

Taking your fingernail and cross-hatching deep grooves into a mosquito bite.

Butter on burns

Tomato juice baths for those who had a run-in with a smelly animal (an encounter with a badger)

And one I still use: 3-4 Tbsp apple cider vinegar in 1/4 cup warm water and a few dashes of Tabasco sauce (we used to use horseradish or hot mustard), drink it down to clear up congestion. Tastes awful but cleans out those passages immediately!
