I guess I don't know as much about zoology as I thought I did. I was under the impression that a male animal didn't "get into the mood" unless he smelled pheromones from a female in heat. (One of the distinctions between us and the other mammals, excepting bonobos)

I suspect that I'd rather not know exactly how these two solved that problem.
