hmmmmm. I think he was misquoted. I believe it should be:

Because I'm a wuss and don't own a gun I had to get a baseball bat and to beat the snake. until it let go, But I missed and I but it killed the dog. That was the last thing the dog saw, me beating a snake it to death with a bat.

Another disturbing thing about that line is that he had a dog with its teeth in the back of its head and a damned snake killed it.
Dang, he could have sold that dog to Ripley's for millions.
I've never seen a dog with its teeth in the back of its head, it must be creepy.
