Missouri and at least 19 other states are considering passing laws that would force people to prove their citizenship before they can vote. These bills are not a sincere effort to prevent noncitizens from voting; that is a made-up problem. The real aim is to reduce turnout by eligible voters. Republicans seem to think that laws of this kind will help them win elections, but burdensome rules like these and others cropping up around the country pose a serious threat to democracy and should be stopped.

300,000 Voters Told They’re Not Registered
Tuesday, September 09, 2008 - NJ101.5
Letters have gone out to 300,000 voters in New Jersey saying they’re not registered to vote. But in many cases, they are.
State officials blame a fact-checking system that compares motor vehicle records with state voter rolls. The systems flags voters when information, such as their birthday, doesn’t match.
Letters were mailed to voters Atlantic, Bergen, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland and Essex counties.
Between 850,000 and 870,000 letters will be mailed in all.
State officials say those who receive letters should confirm their voter status with municipal clerks and the county election board.
The majority of Bergen County residents who called turned out to be registered.

I believe Cleveland Ohio already has more registered voters than adults eligible to vote. Hmmmmmm
Free and honest elections are the very foundation of our republican form of government. Hence any attempt to defile the sanctity of the ballot cannot be viewed with equanimity. United States v. Classic, 313 U.S. 299 at 329 (1941).
September 19, 2008 The Association of Community Organizations for Reform (ACORN), is, once again, involved in voter fraud across the country. ACORN is a socialist group that is an out-growth of New Left politics.
The latest scandal involves voter fraud in Detroit, Michigan, where clerks across the state are reporting fraudulent and duplicate voter registration forms submitted by ACORN.
ACORN has a long history of engaging in voter fraud in all 50 states.
ACORN workers have been convicted in Wisconsin and Colorado and investigations were launched in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Tennessee.
In addition, Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) has been implicated in potential election fraud involving ACORN.
In addition, when Obama was a community organizer in Chicago, he actually helped train ACORN staff members. National Review author Stanley Kurtz published a detailed expose on the Obama-ACORN connection in May, 2008
According to Obama: Ive been fighting alongside ACORN on issues you care about my entire career. (Steven Malanga, Organizer in Chief, City Journal, Summer, 2008).

A perfect example is Ohio. Last Monday the Ohio Supreme Court, in a 4-3 decision, interpreted Ohio law to allow for people to register to vote and cast an absentee ballot on the same day.
(As the three dissenters noted, this directly contradicts Ohio’s Constitution, which requires that a person register to vote 30 days in advance of actually casting that vote. But the Ohio Supreme Court is the last word on Ohio state law.)
Arlington County with a Population just over 200,000 says they have 146,000 registered to Vote?

More than 3 Million Registered Voters are Dead, 12 Million More Ineligible, Analysis Finds
CNSNews.com ^ | November 02, 2009 | Fred Lucas

...a new study shows that more 3.3 million voters on current registration rolls across the country are dead.
Another 12.9 million remain on voter registration lists in an area where they no longer live.
In total that means about 8.9 percent of all registered voters fall under the category of deadwood voters on the rolls, the term for voters who should no longer be eligible to vote in a precinct.
Not only does this raise concerns about potential voter fraud...
