I have often wondered why "Big Labor" has not been declared a monopoly and broken up like Ma Bell and Standard Oil was.
I'd be worried about bigger things--like candy canes this year. Have you seen how they're trying to gouge us? Big Candy is running roughshod over the American people.
Somebody get me Bill O' Reilly, pronto!

Now you know why a certain elderly but very spry gentleman has requested some privacy on the fourth level. (As of the 27
th.)
He probably has a need to "get away from it all."

LOL.
Typical.
It's a good thing that Roger Ebert lives in Chicago.
I doubt he could make it past Battery Park City without collapsing from heat exhaustion.

I doubt he could make it past Battery Park City without collapsing from heat exhaustion.
I doubt he could make it up a flight of stairs without passing out--but that's between us.

Hey! That's not to laugh at! I have it from a very good souce that the candy canes are not only THINNER this year, but shorter by at least 1/2"!!
(Dang! Ya can't trust anyone, any more!)
To: NicknamedBob
And where else could he do so in such protected anonimity?

Like I said, we need to go after Big Candy. They've run this racket for long enough.
How long are the American people going to put up with shorter, thinner candy canes at a higher price? Windfall profits for the candy cane profiteers, while we get the short end of the stick--no pun intended.
To: Das Outsider
Yah! What YOU said!
I'm tired of having my candy canes come up short. Next thing you know, the mint flavor will be gone in favor of something less exciting...
*shaking head*
This is just too much...(or too little...)

I grew up reading Analog. Started seriously reading it every month in 1965. Me and my dad would fight over who read it first. I wanted to go first cause I read faster, he wanted to go first cause he bought it!

Just so so. Coughing and feeling poorly. We were invited to an Eagle award ceremony (a former acolyte at our church), but she is going to have to stay home.

Give her my good wishes and a hug.
And hang in there! (Both of you!)

"Wasn't calling you derivative, mind you...just that your ideas pinged memories..." Difficult for a Science Ficton writer to not be somewhat derivative. However, I think I may have found a way...
In regard to Cities in Flight, anyone bent for science who has seen a good demonstration of gyroscopic precession could not avoid imagining somehow putting that strange phenomenon to work as a space drive. I think that's what Heinlein was describing in "The Number of the Beast."
I will eventually use much the same idea, translated to extremely fast-moving plasma, as my own stardrive. We're at the "Wilbur-and-Orville-chatting-in-the-bicycle-shop" stage as far as reactionless drives are concerned though. That's why the "Flying Castle" uses plain old brute force action/reaction rockets -- powered by Nuclear Energy!
