But is the cider you speak of alcoholic - we may have an Atlantic divide here - when we refer to 'cider', we refer to an alcoholic beverage made from apples, I'm not sure, is that what you call apple juice?

Thanks, over here it's either cider or apple juice, the former is nicknamed 'the lunatic soup' - because even though it's really a sweet tasting beer - it drives people nuts!!

No, cider is different then apple juice. It is not refined or filtered. An alcoholic cider is referred to as a "hard cider".
Technically what I am drinking is sweet cider but we just call it cider.
There is also sparkling cider which is a (usually!) nonalcoholic beverage that gets served to the designated driver or other people that prefer not to imbibe at holiday bashes.

"You sure? I snore when I drink and I drink enthusiastically..." No problem. We'll put you in one of the rooms near where we expect the invaders to come in.
They'll be sitting out there saying, "We'll go in just as soon as it gets quiet in there."
In the morning, we'll just go out and sweep them up like discarded straw wrappers.
