It depends where you search. I'm looking for my first husband's line, and have narrowed it down to nine who came through Ellis Island at the right time, but only three of them from the right (I think) area in Europe. Not easy.

That's not quite what I was getting at. I've noticed that ancestors in certain areas--and particularly in certain times--in Europe are MUCH harder to trace, e.g., 16th-century Germany and the like. It's fine if your 19th great-grandfather was Frederick the Wise, but not so if he was Hans the Dirt Poor Tenant Farmer. Given the scarcity to records in some places, I think that some of the claims of royal descent are less scientific and more lazy wish fulfilment.

That isn't to say that I'm doubting your claim. I'm sure you've done your homework up, down, sideways, and back again.

At last count, I had 3600+ entries...just on my dad's side. My mother's side is a little harder to find, as that's the one with the Native Americans. Some on my father's side came from South Africa, in the early settlements there, but the rest of it, is through the Royals. There are seven lines going through the Royals, and it's often hard to keep them straight because of the incest.
