Wish the history channel would have actual history shows.

What, you're not interested in "Modern Marvels: Bricks"?

You are so sweet.

Give me a bite sometime. I'm sweet with a hint of almond.
I couldn't resist. =;^)

I,CLAUDIUS was filled to the brim with nudity, sexual acts, and showed less war scenes.

Having recently watched the unexpurgated DVD set, all the sex acts were implied, and not shown. There was brief female nudity in the opening scene with the african dancers, and a few shots of nekkid people from behind. Nothing like HBO.

Well, I guess. Silly me for expecting the writers and directors to take their product seriously and strive to make something that will be fondly remembered decades from now. Would such distracting scenes and pointless side stories be appropriate in something like Braveheart of The Godfather trilogy?

They showed Caligula ripping the baby from his sister's womb.

Is it the BBC version, or the Bowdlerized PBS version you saw?

No, IIRC, it wasn't as graphic as the HBO version, but at the time, it WAS much more shocking.

Yeah it makes me wonder what the hell the spent the 100mil on, Sure the sets, customs and props are nice but I've seen nice sets, customs and props on shows/movies that cost way less than that. Though Alexandria wasn't as nice as it could have been

And the two actresses playing Servilia and Octavia clearly aren't comfortable filming lesbian scenes.

Also didn't Octavia marry Mark Anthony? The way the characters have been portrayed especially Octavia they would seem like a total mismatch on the show. I hope they don't do something silly like make Octavia go for Mark Anthony in order to get back her mother or something else stupid like that.

But still, for the most part, it is an excellent show. My biggest gripe is that they haven't shown enough of Caesar.

The 1st couple of episodes he was lacking, his character was poorly introduced but last couple of episodes at least he's been around more. Atia & Servilla have run their course and they could just vanish

Season two should be interesting with Octavian vs Mark Anthony.

If there's a season 3, I hope they skip to the crisis of 193-194, that time would make for a good show (Though there are rumors that Gladiator II will do it).

And God willing if there's a season 4 I hope they skip to the 400's and make your namesake the central character. I find Aetius much more fascinating than Ceaser, the way he played one barbarian tribe off another and beat down Attila and basically kept the empire going. Powers Boothe did a good job of him in USA's Attila (at least they attempted to do the Battle of Charlons)so bring him back!

They showed Caligula ripping the baby from his sister's womb.

Whoa, maybe I was watching an unexpurgated version. In the one I saw, this wasn't shown, just the lead up, followed by a cutaway with Drusilla's screaming, then Nero came out of the room with a bloody mouth. Did the full version actually show the "caesarian section"?

I don't have cable since they raised the rates over fifty bucks a month, I said "You're history". If it comes out on DVD and I can rent it free at the library, I'll watch.

You mean EXPURGATED ( "unexpurgated" means that nothing has been cut out ) and yes, I think that you saw the American/PBS cleaned up version. The one that was showed in England, had a bit more nudity and they showed the horrible ripping the baby scene. It wasn't THAT graphic; just more bloody and no cutaways...no actual cutting, but far more nasty than what you saw.

I've seen both versions and can tell you, there are some differences in what was shown in each country.

Yes, Octavia married Marc Anthony and it was a marriage of politics, rather than love. Just as Julius Caesar had married off his daughter to Pompey, Octavia was married off to Anthony.
