I asked about neurectomy but I found out it's not an option. It makes laminitis worse and can make the entire hoof slough off, something the vet has seen happen. I've put Tuffy through enough stuff that hasn't worked, I don't think I want to try it.

I don't purport to know anything about anything, and I know it's too late now, but one of the topics that came up at my shoeing clinic was laminitis treatment and the vets that were in attendance were talking about icing the feet if you even remotely suspect that a horse might have the chance of having a laminitic episode, even before he starts exhibiting pain. They were saying that if, for instance, a horse got into the feed room and ate too much grain that it seemed to work as a preventative measure to ice their feet for up to 48 hours solid. Apparently the vasoconstriction worked to keep the endotoxins (which cause the swelling) out of their feet. But one vet said that he'd had luck with icing after the fact. They were in agreement though that the feet should be in ICE for the entire time, not just cold water, which means you'd have to be dumping new ice in there every few hours. Not something the average person who has a job and a family would be able to do. And I don't know if the same treatment would work on laminitis caused by other things. Laminitis is just such a awful condition and I don't think that a lot of vets know just what to do for it. Lord knows I don't. We'll just keep on prayin for the right answer though.
