Wow, those are some long heeled shoes! I think the mechanics of the long heel is that the trailer on the heel hits the ground sooner, causing the foot to come down sooner and keeping it from hitting the sole of the shoe in front of it. But that's just a guess on my part.

I think they're trying to achieve the opposite of that... to extend the stride in the back, even if it means he forges.
